Question about PC Desktops

I bought the Samsung, SyncMaster913v 19' Monitor, over 1 year ago. On weekend we had a powersurge and after the monitor could not turned on. All that happens is a green ligth blinking at bottom of screen, which gets turned off as you push powerbutton. I have a qoute to fix for $120, but is hoping you can tell what was "fried" and what I may need to buy, and how to replace?

Does not turn on

Hello

With any monitor, check the following to determine if the issue is MONITOR related or COMPUTER related.

1. Verify the monitor is receiving power - use a known good power outlet and plug it into the monitor

2. Samsung monitors have a light on the power button - are you getting any color light from this? Orange means it is in "stand by" mode and is waiting for the PC to send it a signal. Green means the monitor is getting a signal from the PC and the monitor is on.

3. With the monitor on, press the buttons on the monitor to bring up the OSD (on screen display) that changes the monitor settings. If you have a green light on the power button and press one of these buttons (AUTO works best), this will display the monitor adjustment options on the screen.

If you see the on screen adjustments, your monitor is working and the issue may be with your PC. Move the monitor to another PC and verify the monitor is working correctly.

IF you don't see anything on the screen and the power light is green, the monitor has failed.

This could be the lights that illuminate the screen have failed (something that happened to my Samsung Syncmaster monitors after about 6 years of use) or the screen has stopped functioning. In either case, replacement parts are hard to find and a monitor swap is likely.

Hi Nithya
Try this Turn off the monitor then unplug all the cables , press and hold down the power button for 15 sec , see whether there is any magnetic device near by the monitor , eg Anything which is made of Iron, or any metal, keep them away from the monitor , if this is not fixing the issue , i Guess the monitor need to be serviced !

Monitor will not turn on including power switch

I suspect the power supply for the monitor. Try a power supply from a working monitor. If you have a used computer store nearby, take your power supply to them and try it on another monitor.

There is no need to turn off a monitor using its power switch. Monitors automatically go into standby mode when they are not receiving a signal. In standby mode they use less than one cent of electricity per day. If saving electricity is your goal, raise the temperature in your home by a degree and run the air conditioning less.

My Dad bought a NEC 1700v Monitor about 5 years ago. Its a good monitor and the picture/color is still good but it blacks out after it shows desktop for about 10 seconds. To get it to come back on, can...

This is a CRT monitor right? Do not open the case! There is high voltage stored in a capacitor somewhere in there and you could get zapped. You can buy good used monitors at Goodwill or a computer re-cycler for $20.00. If yours lasted five years you got your moneys worth. Did this monitor work correctly on other computers? If it did maybe you have a problem with your graphics card or something in the computer itself. Try a different monitor on your computer. If everything is OK with a different monitor then you know that your computer is good and that is not the problem.

I have a ACER LCD Monitor that will not power up when turned on. The power light does not come on. (AL1715)It was purchased under three years ago.

Check to see if the computer is turned on and that the monitor is plugged in. If all Ok, then your monitor is burned out. Do not open the monitor case and look inside because you can get a shock. Just replace it. Three years is about normal life span.

I have the samsung syncmaster 913v 19'' lcd monitor.Recently, the thing blacks out after 1 hr or so and the not optimum mode signal appears.I cannot raise the resolution above 1024x768 without blacking out...

It seems like a lot of people have experienced this issue after a year or two of use. There are two things people reported working...

Try adjusting the refresh rate higher or lower... 60Hz is usually stable in any resolution.

Completely unplug monitor for 5 minutes or longer. Seems like it works for some and not others.

Samsung has a 3 year warranty. If neither solution works, see if it is still under warranty.

Good luck!

Desktop monitor

Hi

Disconnect the monitor from the tower and then turn on the monitor.
If u get a msg like no input signal or check video cable then the monitor is fine. If this is the case, it could be a problem with the tower or the cable.
