Get the model and serial # off the dell machine.Go to dell website and download then to a flash drive or a zip file.Or you can burn them to a cd.
Then transfer the drivers to the pc you reinstalled windows on.You will need another pc with internet to do this.

Probably conexant ethernet drivers.Anyway dell support has them and there free.

Windows doesn't detect a properly installed network driver

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down network adapters + expand Ethernet driver if you see a yellow ? ! question or exclamation mark or red x means you need to install/update driver right click to install driver

the driver could be on the motherboard disk or the one supplied by your ISP internet service supplier or you might need to download it

Is this the problem you're referring to bonescitgo1?

http://www1.fixya.com/support/t10679772-loaded_new_set_windows_friends

If so, yes, when Windows is reloaded sometimes drivers are lost. (They aren't actually lost. The address to them is)

Dell Support > Dimension 2200 Desktop PC > Downloads,

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_CEL_2200&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Page comes up automatically to Windows XP operating system. (You installed WinXP Pro)

On this page scroll down to the heading - Network (17) and left-click on the blue down arrow to the left.

There are two drivers listed for an Ethernet adapter;

1) GVC - Driver - Ethernet 10/100 PCI Adapter

2) Intel - Driver - PRO 100/M Ethernet Adapter

To know which Ethernet adapter is in the computer go to Device Manager.

A) Left-click on Start
B) Right-click on My Computer
C) Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
D) Left-click on the Hardware tab
E) Left-click on Device Manager

When Device Manager loads left-click on the + sign to the left of -
Network Adapters
Look at the manufacturer name. It should be either GVC or Intel.

Close all windows, (Device Manager and System Properties), go back to the desktop screen.
Now go on the internet, and to the link above.

Left-click on Download in the blue oblong circle, to the right of the appropriate driver file, GVC or Intel.

The Download Options window will come up.
USE the bottom option; Download via your Internet Browser.

Left-click on Download in the blue oblong circle, at the bottom left.

A small window will come up on the right; Opening R35845.EXE
Left-click on Save File.

Another small window will come up on the left.
In the wording at the top of this window, tells you where the file will download to.
Suggest you write it down.

It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording. (Windows XP)

1) Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen.

2) My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents

3) Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

When you see the file DOUBLE-click right on it. The Installation Wizard will come up.
At the bottom of the first small window left-click on Next.
Same with the second small window.
Left-click on Finish on the third small window.

[ DO NOT change any settings in the second window. Windows knows the proper place to put this driver file ]

After the Installation Wizard is finished, close all windows, go back to your desktop screen, and restart the computer.

When Windows loads all the way, you should get a pop-up out of the system tray at the bottom of your desktop screen,
"Found new hardware", and perhaps another one will follow, "Found XXXXX Ethernet adapter"
(XXXXX = the manufacturer name of the Ethernet adapter)

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Regards,
joecoolvette

(Hope things start looking up for your friend)

Unable to get on the internet. It says ethernet is unplugged. a friend told me that i should download the driver to my other computer. Then put the harddrive on the other computer that im having problems...

If its saying "Ethernet is unplugged" means its not getting signal from the router to the machine through your LAN cable. Try changing the LAN cable and check your Ethernet settings.

I found I needed a USB/Ethernet adaptor in order to connect my new broadband and purchased an ASIX AX88772A vai your product A31GY from Maplins. I'm having trouble in that the Broadband set up refuses to...

I allowed Windows Update to search for the right driver. This took a long time - I'd tried earlier but evidently hadn't let it run for long enough. It located and loaded a driver and everything was then fine: the ethernet connection (via adaptor) 'went live', my new broadband set-up software recognised it and proceeded sussessfully from there.

I assume that the device manager on my PC was correctly identifying corrupt drivers on the small CD supplied with the adaptor and that I'd managed to find uncorrupted ones on the internet via Windows Update.

Dell Inspiron ethernet card plug bad, either send tower to Dell for 3 weeks or replace and bypass with new ethernet card PCI, any problems with doing this?

There should not be any problem with you buying your own PCI ethernet card and install it yourself. They are not that expensive. www.newegg.com has on for only $7.99 and it will work fine in your computer. It does not need to be from Dell.

LOST ETHERNET DRIVER

If you have the "Windows XP" operating system then follow these instructions...If you have a second computer with an internet connection then you can search on the internet for that driver...type the make and model of your computer plus the word "ethernet driver" and after you find it you just download it into "My Documents"...after that, copy the driver onto a blank CD disc...Take the CD and put it into your notebook and it should open and extract the file ..If it doesn't open up when you load the CD, go into "My Computer" and then double click on the "CD/CDRW/DVD/DVD-RW drive...restart your computer and remove the CD from the disc drive...Now plug your DSL into your ethernet port and see if it works...if it still does not work then go into "Control Panel" and then "Network and Internet Connections" and then "Network Connections" and then "Create a New Connection" and then follow the instructions...restart your computer and see if it finds the ethernet port and receives the signal through the ethernet cord

Hitachi Desktop "Flora 370W" with Windows XP (8 months old) - LOST the Hitachi CD with hardware drivers & Windows XP doesn't recognize devices (i.e., Ethernet card). Thanks, P. Towle

Youll need a friends computer with internet access and a flash drive for this mission. Head to hitachi's website and look up the model of your machine. Download to the flash drive at least the ethernet and/or modem driver to your machine. You can either use these two drivers to get your machine online or you can download all of your drivers. If your model has multiple device drivers for each category, youll need a program called Everest. It will identify all of your hardware in your machine. Get the 30 day trial version from www.lavalys.com.
