You probably want to measure everything except the starter motor current. There is usually a terminal block somewhere on the fire wall. The amp meter is connected in SERIES with the wire where a voltmeter is connected in PARALLEL (across) the circuit.
if I remember right the alternator has a large red wire on the back that goes to the battery ,it goes in it just cut and run two wires to the amp gauge must be the same size as the wire you cut 10 gauge I beleive
