Vacum keeps turning off with warning lights

My vacum keeps turning off, the top warning lights come on. The bag with the dots in it and the cord light. I checked the bag which was not close to full. I changed the filter on top, which was not very dirty. When I turn the machine off it restarts then shuts down after about one or two minutes. I'm afaid to burn up the motor. Please advise.

If I remove the hose from the body, it runs fine. As soon as I partially cover the air hole, it shots down and the warning light comes on, When the hose is attached, it shuts down within 1 second. The hose is not blocked.

same problem- same trouble light comes on and vacuum turns off.

How do i change the control valve.

The same thing happened to my Electrolux Epic 6500 tonight. If it's the control valve causing it to keep shutting off, how do I change the control valve?

  • jenny_jenny Feb 07, 2009

What does it cost to change the control valve?

  • sunsetalert Mar 14, 2009

vacuum motor runs fine until hose is connected or hand placed in front of opening on canister. Then it shuts off with bag light on, but bag is new. If it's control valve problem, is that something that can be fixed at home or must be serviced at dealer??

Actually the problem is that you need to change your control valve. The motor has an internal thermostat on it already so the chances of you burning the motor out are very slim. By changing the control valve, you will solve your problem. Very simple and quick fix.

It sounds like your vacuum motor is over heating to the point that the safety feature is engaging so not cause further damage. Take it into a shop to see what is causing it to shut off. You could also try taking it apart and checking for a hiding clog!

Same thing on my epic series 6500SR....I just took off the "hood" and disconnected the little tube that connects to the control valve...problem solved..
in the future I'll have to check the bag manually, I think I can live with that

What does the key light stand for on lux7000 canister vaccuum?

The light on the top of the 7000 that represents a "key" as you state it, is actually a "No Bag" light. That means to check the bag compartment for a bag. Replace if you do not see one. Close the door, push the start button, and voila....it will start. If it doesn't , make sure the bag top (cardboard) is flush inside. It may be missing the bag switch. Hope that helps!

My vacum will not start a red question mark lights up. Can this be fixed?

This light indicates the bag needs changed. If you've done that, The possibilities are a clogged hose, clogged elbow at power nozzle, or on certain models a bad Control Valve Assembly. If yours has a dial on top, turn so the smallest dot lines up with the arrow. If it doesn't have a dial, you don't have to worry about a bad CVA. If you aren't using genuine Electrolux bags made by Home Solutions, then the bags pores will clog faster, which would cause the vacuum to shut off.

Light keeps coming on saying bag full but its not

Almost certainly there is a blockage in the pipes leading to the bag compartment. This will cause the red light to come on, and it will lead to the motor cutting out from over-heating (as there's not enough air flow to cool it). To test that the light is working correctly, you can unplug the flexible hose from the top of the bag compartment then switch the machine on. The red light should be off, but will come on if you block the hole with your hand. If that test shows the light is working, you need to search for a blockage - which is most likely to be in the flexible hose, but can be in the rigid plastic tube or in the base of the machine (turn it over and look in the little trap-door). Clearing a blockage from the hose can be difficult - you are more likely to be successful if you can devise a way to pull it out rather than trying to push it (as with a broom handle, for example), because pushing may just compact it.

Kirby will not turn on

For the kirby to run all the switches need to be in contact. First check the brush head and make sure its attached properly, then check the plastic piece on the bottom of the bag (called the mini emptor) it should be all the way against the body of the vacuum. if all that is good check the cord where it runs up the handle and connects to the swiveling strain relief at the top... usually those cords go bad right there. If the cord is good, you probably need a new switch but before you spend the money on that expensive genuine kirby switch check the motor carbon brushes and the commotator on the armature where the brushes make contact.

1 ) how do you open the body of the vacum ? 2) How to replace the power cord? Epic 6500 sr

Very Carefully! LOL! Disconnect the hose from the door. Open the door. Remove the bag. Flip the vacuum on its top. You will then need to remove the trim pieces from the sides by sliding them toward the front of the machine(bag opening). Usually they won't want to go easily. The way I used to do it was by wedging a screw driver between the rear cover and the trim piece then gently tapped the side of the screw driver blade toward the front. Once you get enough hanging over you can grab and pull them the rest of the way. The vacuum should separate once the trim has been removed. ****I have to warn you. If you have never done this before it is extremely important to take note of how and where everything goes on an Electrolux. They are complex machines that are assembled in a fairly meticulous way.**** The best way for someone that has not had any training to replace the cord is by replacing the cord winder assembly that comes with a new cord. Otherwise you have to disassemble the cord winder. Not fun.

Is the style c the right bag. The vacum cleaner only runs about 5 seconds before it says the bag is full.

If you have a 6500, the C bag is the right one. Try turning the dial on top of the vac to the smallest dot and see if the machine will run properly.
If it is still doing the same thing, take it to your Aerus/Electrolux dealer for repair. The control valve assembly (full bag control) needs to be replaced and I don't recomend that you try the repair.

My vacum is not powering up

Reason number 1 (not sure why Kirby Co. still has not fixed it) - improperly installed outer bag. You have to push the bag all the way to the unit so it presses the safety switch that is between exhaust and the vacuum shell

Reason 2 - defective cord - try wiggling it. If you know how to do it - try removing cord and supplying power directly to the unit using another cord or wire (ONLY if you know how to work with electricity. If you get zapped - do not blame me)

Reason 3 - bad power switch (instructions on how to replace it HERE)

Reason 4 (very unlikely) - motor KAPUT
