Question about Frigidaire FMV156DC Microwave Oven

Microwave sparks We have a Frigidaire Microwave that's only 2 years old and was purchased with the house. When I tried to warm up food on a paper plate the microwave sparked on the cavity side wall. Apparently there is a thin paper card that covers this small area of the inside of the microwave that appeard to be burnt or browned from the sparks. I am scared to use it since it apperas it will catch on fire. Is it feasible to replace that thin paper cardboard? to see if that solves the problem? or should I purchase another microwave? thank you, Beth

Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

Sounds like you don't have proper microwave-compatible plates or mugs. Must have lead in them, or in the paint (!?!) Try a plastic plate or even a paper plate. I can't think of anything that would make the microwave oven do that, UNLESS it's a microwave/convection oven, in which case, the convection heater must be coming on whenever you are trying to just use the microwave function.

Sparks Flying

Microwave ovens are covered with a special durable paint and that helps reduce sparking. The problem is the area that you are seeing this at has become dirty with food debris. You need to clean it very well and if the paint has come off, repaint it with special paint. The paint can be found on amazon dot com and the cleaning has to be done without getting any moisture in the wave guide (which is behind the thing you called the vent.)

The microwave will not heat the food

Yes - please buy a new one.
Unfortunately microwaves have 2 positions - working or dead!.
The cost to resurrect from the dead is all out of proportion with the cost of buying a new one which will have at least a 12mths guarantee

It sounds like this is an old RR7 or RR10?
I don't know of any 'old' parts suppliers. Parts are generally available for up to ten years after manufacture. You might try ebay.... that would be my best guess..

Microwave not heating up food

This model is a lower-end type that probably didn't cost very much. Since it's over 2 years old, you have no warranty left. Most appliance repair shops charge extra $$ for servicing installed items in the home. You'd probably be better off purchasing a new comparable model. The labor fee alone might equal what you paid for it.

Sparks fly when I use my microwave!!!

In some models it is a larger stirrer cover type made of thicker plastic in the ceiling of the oven.

Convection oven problem

Most of the time the magnetron is defective if the food is not heating up.
In some cases there is a defective low power transformer or other componenents associated with the magnetron.
I would suggest to check the owners manual under the warranty section. Sometimes the magnetron has 5 years warranty.
Good Luck.

No heat from microwave oven

How old is your oven?? If more than 2 years, it may have a bad magnetron tube or other high voltage components. You will need to have it checked by a qualified technician to get an accurate repair estimate that includes everything it needs.
