I had one. Don't think you calibrate it. Reading is relative to it's mounting base. To change the direction reading, you would need to rotate the base.

SOURCE: Autohelm mast Wind speed unit. Bottom bearing worn

Here is post copied from other person with same problem

I recently, had a problem were my ST50 Wind mast Head unit was not giving an output to the display for wind speed. Having removed the unit I found the bearing supporting the rotor had collapsed and hence allowed the indicator to rotated but not on a true axis and hence there was no output signal. A little investigation found that the bearing and the Digital Position sensor (Honeywell SS 411-A, the bit that measures the 4 magnets on the rotor) could be purchase from Radio spares at the RS part numbers for those interested are: -

Honeywell SS 411-A = 181-1463
Rotor bearing = 612-5739

The unit is now working as new all for under Ten quid.

Is there such a thing as a reset for the Autohelm WIND ST 50? I purchased a boat with one that showed proper wind angle but not speed. I removed the sender, greased both the wind vane and cuos. now

I assume you have an ST-50 or ST60 windvane setup. These are the calibration instructions from the unit manual for the ST-50. They are the same for the ST-60 and ST-60+ units.

Hope it helps you.

Initial Calibration Windvane Alignment
Before the unit is used for navigational purposes the masthead transducer must be accurately aligned to the vessel. Before this procedure is carried out the windvane should be linearised as follows.

1 . Powerup lhe ST50 Plus Wind instrument.

2. Tum the vessel through two complete circles, making sure that the windvane remains in line with the wind -the instrument will automatically linearise the windvane.

1. Press and hold CAL for 2 seconds until CO is displayed by the LCD.

2. Press < > to move the pointer to the correct wind angle.- WIND
- Press < > once to move the pointer by 1 degree.
- Press < > for 1 second to move the pointer by 10 degrees/second.
The LCD will now display the applied correction.

3. Press and hold CAL for 2 seconds to exit and store windvane alignment.

Windspeed Unit Selection

1 . Press and hold CAL until Ul (Knots) or U2 (Meters/second is displayed.

2. Press CALwithin 8 seconds to change the windspeed units selection.

3. After 8 seconds the wind instrument returns to normal operation.

Autohelm mast Wind speed unit. Bottom bearing worn out. Can this be replaced, or where can I get a full replacement unit. Len

The part number for the lower pod is Q002. I am willing to bet that Raymarine will not have any more of these. The new ST60+ version will read faster than what the wind is actually.

I have a E22078 Wind Vane. How do I check the wiring continuity at the cockpit without climbing the mast? Can I use a multimeter to read impedance up to the wind instrument?

You can read the motor/generator windings with a volt ohm meater. Is it dc or ac? You should be able to read some voltage as long as it is turning? If it is a dc generator it will read dc voltage at the slightest of wind speed. If it is an ac generator it may have to be above 5 mph to get a reading. No reading could mean a broken wire.

Hello bhowardjr,

Yes any electronics store would sell a cable conversion kit what you would end up doing is putting a matching socket and jack arrangement on each end and connecting them. You just have to find the matching cable ends.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

ST40 Depth and Knot meter

I traced the line from the mast and it was good so finally ordered a new instrument head "$150", It works now, the head was 2 years old {the length of the warranty} not a very long lasting instrument, hope I get more time out of the new one.
