My printer is not printing black ink, although both black cartridge ink levels are are 3/4 full. I have reset to factory settings and cleaned the print heads.

Leave the print head ( not the whole cartridge!) soaking overnight in a little puddle of solvent e.g. print head cleaner or alcohol. This is much more effective than the printer clean program or a quick rub with a cotton bud.

My printer won't print black. ink is full, other colors print. Printer tests say everything o.k.

I would like to share with you my personal experience with printer issues. I have canon i455 printer which has black & blue color clogged. Here is the solution:
1. Buy Ethyl-alcohol/ethanol solution (70% or more). You can purchase this at any drug stores. Isopropyl alcohol may work as well.
2. Remove both cartridges from the printer head. Unplug the printer head from the printer body. Pour the alcohol liquid into paper towel layer (use more layer/thick to avoid ink from being drop into table).
3. put the printer head on the top of wet towel - with the face of HEAD touching the towel.
4. rub the head to the towel until you get rid of built-up ink on the head.
5. Pour some alcohol liquid into the printer head container (ink-receptacle area where the ink cartridge normally sits (there should be a little hole down in there where the ink actually flows from the cartridge into the head). Be careful do not touch the electronic parts. Let's dry overnight.
6. repeat step 2-5 if necessary.
7. Install the cartridge back to the printer and run several head cleaning maintenance, print nozzle check, repeat until no more dead nozzle shown.

good luck!

Black cartridge emptied half way through a four page email.changed cartridge. print appeared to be white...not black. did test print....ok. printed colour photo....ok. printed black and white...

did you try trouble shooting it? Also, make sure your printer header isn't clogged. Clean nozzles. This printer constantly needs maintenance with the channels. Keep them clean, and make sure the ink doesn't dry up. If you use cheap ink the ink tends to dry up fast.

When i try to print a document, only the color will print...any 'text' that is black will not print. i replaced the two black cartridges with new ones, and then the wider cartridge only registers as half...

clean the heads with white (ordinary household) vinigar not alcohol. The vinigar disolves any dried or gummed up ink which might be plugging things up. The alcohol doesn't disolve any dried ink so it can't remove any deposits.

If you do a good job on cleaning the printer will print just as god as it did on day one.

My epson stylus cx3200 is not printing in black but does print colour even though ink levels in both colour and black cartridges are fine

If you are brave I had the same problem. I removed my ink disconnected the data ribbon to the Head. Took off the nozzles. I used a child's med. syringe with the tube. Filled it will rubbing alcohol. placed the tube on the head where the ink cartage attaches and slowly put pressure on the syringe. Be care full it will flush the black ink everywhere. I kept doing this till the black was all flushed out. Put it back together. make sure you put the ribbons back in the right way. Mine works great.

Prints black

Remove the print head, inks come out first. then lift the arm on the right of the head , it lifts out , never touch the gold pads on the back be very carful of the bottom print head. don't let cotton or tissue clog or get in the very fine print head nozels. so dont rub hard be very gentle let the alcohol do its job. soak at least 5 min.
clean the head with alcohol, let it sit on a soaked clean cloth saturated with 96% isoprople. ink will flow out on to the cloth its
ok put fresh full inks back in and deep clean right away and all should be well

My black ink wont work black ink is weak and isn't evenly distributed on the page, all other colours print fine

Replace the cartridge or get it refilled. If it is full you can take a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol and clean the head off. This has worked for me in the past.

Black won't print

Alcohol is probably the most effective and the strongest
head cleaner I would dare to use, without dissolving the
plastic. You may even try soaking the head in alcohol
overnight or try using a bath style ultrasonic cleaner,

but ultimately, if the head is really plugged up, or if the
electronic firing mechanisms inside the head are damaged
you are probably out of luck.

Replacing the heads may be possible, but hardly cost effective.
Some heads are part of the ink cartridge, others are separate.

You may also try to wiggle the ribbon cable feeding the
moving print head to make sure it has a good connection.

Finally you may find that buying a new cheap printer for $50
is more cost effective than wasting tons of ink, trying to
clean the one you have.

I have had many printers from every brand imaginable,
ranging from $45 to $1200, and I find that the more
expensive the printer is, the more of a let down it is,
and the sooner the ink becomes obsolete.

My favorite is the last one, which came with 6 full sized
ink cartridges for $65. When the ink runs out, i will replace
it with another new printer. :)

Also if you do mostly B&W printing, an $89.00 laser printer
is a far better investment. It prints faster, with better quality
and lasts for ever. No ink covered hands, no headaches.
