Question about Sony KP-51WS510 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Sony Trinitron Model KV-2654R, Manufactured 1983

Sentimental reasons keep me hanging on. There is a blown capacitor on the main circuit board @ C-566. I'm trying to identify the replacement part without purchasing a schematic. Did I also mention I was cheap!

Hi,im a technician and i got a problem with a Sony Trinitron Colour television model Kv-T29mn3. I replaced an Str, capacitors & Horizontal Output Transistor. Voltage output its okay but it keeps on...

These sets had alot of problems with bad FBT flyback tranfomers,You might need to change FBT.
Heres another thing they also had Bad Picture Tubes that will blow hori output and you will not know its the Tube untill you replace the FBT.Use a high voltage probe to monitor Voltage coming from the anode button, if you dont have a HVP then disconnect the CRT board and monitor set.

Power light flashes red 6 times. No picture.

The common fault often points the problem being to the power supply or the main printed circuit board.
If you are tech-savvy, you can open the back of the unit and measure, using a multimeter, the voltages from the power supply printed circuit board as well as the main printed circuit board, if the power supply is sending insufficient voltages, its common that you will get the flashing red lights.
Also check for any blown capacitors on the power supply as well as any shorted resistors. I hope this helps.

Flashing stand by light and tv does not respond to any swithc or remote

Hi.

If after the fault the TV went in standby and does not wake up, staying there with led flashing, then the TV has on protect mode after detecting a fault.
When this happens higher voltages are shut down to prevent further damage. Only the +5V line will stay on to keep the TV in standby.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

I have a Trinitron KV-40XBR800. Won't come on.

the indicator lamp flashes a determined amount of times then there is a pause, then lights the same amount of times again, by what you describe there is a power supply or a deflection circuit problem.

Sony KV-32FS16, heard a pop then the screen turned green. What do you think?

Hello famous2,

I believe that pop was a capacitor venting. If you open the set you will see either a completely blown capacitor or it will be bloated and or puffy in appearance. Check the signal board or the power supply board for this vented capacitor. it will have to be de-soldered and replaced.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Power switch wont turn on,keeps clicking

The fault is not a relay, the clicking sound is just the protection circuit that prevents the TV from starting because a fault had been detected.

SONY Trinitron (POWER on. Black screen.)

This is not the flyback, if the model is the one listed in title, it has no flyback, has it is a rear projection. The motherboard is possible, but also C board and D board are likely.

1 The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

check also the video cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Check also connectors, try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.
