Yeah, same problem-says "preparing to open", then goes into "disc access" like you put a new disc in. I considered just prying it open, but that seems like a bad plan.

Try using the Reset button.
Reset button is inside the door/viewfinder, need paperclip or something small.
Power ON and Eject.
Now you have to Set your date and time.
Most likely cause, scratched disc.
Don't use disc again.

I just fixed this on mine!  you need to remove the battery and unplug it from the charging cable if applicable, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.  replace the battery and turn it on.  this should solve the problem!

Make sure it actually has a cd/dvd drive and it appears in the devices and drives (usually accessed from my computer).

If so, then right click on the CD/DVD drive in the windows explorer under devices and drive and click eject.

HOW DO I OPEN THE DVD ON MY ACER ASPIRE E1-472P-6860 OPEN DVD DRIVE

On the DVD drive door there is a very small rectangular push button. It is about 5/32 inch wide by 3/8 inch long. it may take several several attempts at pushing the button but it should open the drive. If it does not open up the My Computer icon of your computer and left click on the DVD icon. When the drop down box appears select eject and right click on it. That should open your drive. I hope info this helps you.

My dvd wont play on laptop

b> Copy-protected DVDs prohibit people from copying them, which is piracy. Copying a DVD to sell or even to give away is illegal. You can play copy-protected DVDs in a standalone DVD player or in your computer's DVD drive, as long as your computer's software is up to date. These DVDs will play the same as DVDs that are not copy protected

Press the "Eject" button on your DVD player to open the DVD tray. Set the DVD into the tray, and push the "Eject" button to close the tray. Press the "Play" button on your DVD player, and the DVD will play. b> On a DVD Drive on a Computer Press the "Eject" button on your DVD drive to eject the DVD tray. Set the DVD into the DVD drive, and push the tray in to close it. Click the "Start" tab on your computer's home screen to open the "Start" menu. Click on "My Computer" to open it. Click on the DVD drive to open the DVD. Click on "Autoplay" to play the DVD.

DVD OR CD not drive by CD-ROM

    Option One:
To fix it, open “My Computer”, or “Windows Explorer”, find the drive icon for your CD/DVD player/burner and right-click on it. When the popup menu opens, choose, “Properties”. Click on the “Auto Play” tab. Click on “Select an Action to Perform”. Click on the “Restore Defaults” button and click on the “Apply” button. Then click on “Prompt me each time to choose an action” and click on the “Apply” button again. (Note: If you want it to open in a particular program each time you put in your music CD, instead of clicking on “Prompt me…” choose the program you want it to open each time you put in your CD. Now click on “Apply” and “OK” and restart your computer. Now put in a music CD and see if it works as it should.

    Multibay/cd/dvd access

If you look on the side edge of your laptop (more than likely the right side) you should see a CD/DVD drive bay with a small button. Just press that and it should pop out enough for you to finish pulling it out.

The other way to do it is to open "My Computer", right click on the icon that says "CD/DVD" and select "Eject".

Let me know if that helps.
