When I turn on my computer sometimes the screen goes black. I can barely see anything on the screen. If I put the screen down then lift it and hold it just right it might stay on for awhile.

I didn't see any solutions to this problem. Where do I get the solutions? There were supposed to be two.

When i connect an external monitor and use Fn+F3 i was able to see the computer so i guess either the backlight or the inverter is not functional

Solution at last! if you connect the laptop to an external monitor and press(Fn + F3) does it work? then what you have is a backlight Inverter problem which in this case is broken (this boosts the electrical voltage level ) it retails on the web for about $70.

How do I replace the f1 fuse in my gateway 7326

Will it boot? Fan spin? LED's blink? Sound? Try connecting to a external monitor, does it show desktop? The screen is all black, no cursor at top left? No "ghost Image" in the screen when viewed in a bright light? I would look at the inverter board, backlighting, ribbon cable in the rear of the monitor, the LCD screen, your laptop has some miles on it. Not sure about a fuse on a laptop motherboard, don't see that often. Take a look at this may help you troubleshoot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w

If you connect to external monitor and don`t work
Try:
1.- Remove the memory module and clean the gold connectors
reseat the memory.

If continue don`t show image
Disassembly the laptop
Remove the processor
and reseat again

If don`t work, is your Chipset video
Maybe you can try fix the chipset video

I have a gateway laptop computer ( model MX3215 ). when i turn on the power i can hear it starting up , but it's just a blank black screen.but i can see slightly my desktop is there, icons , internet,...

First this won't be a battery issue if you have the same problem when pluged to the grid.
This is certainly a screen issue, either it is the inverter that gives power to the backlighting system that has a problem or the lighting tubes themself. To make sure it is one of these 2, plug an external monitor on the vga connector, when you boot the laptop, if you see the bios sequence, the you definitely have a screen issue.
In this case, go to a laptop repair shop.
Or if you'd like to try, there are plenty of tutorial on how to unmount a laptop screen and change the parts...

hope this helps.

I turned on my m-675 yesterday and got the gateway green and black screen that just continued to stay there. After 5 minutes I used the control/alt/delete buttons to reboot my computer. Now, my computer...

From the information, that you used control/alt/delete to re-boot, I am assuming that you sensed that the computer finished the booting process. Meaning the tell tale sound (music) of windows booting was there, the hard disk whirling (blinking LED) for a certain period and stopping etc. If that is the case, (meaning you think your computer is capable of booting) probably you have a display failure. If you have a VGA cable connect that cable to the VGA connector (0n your laptop) and connect the other end to Desktop screen (monitor) or a TV screen with a VGA input. Probably you will see a display right away. If not press the Fn key and the key which changes the screen from laptop to external screen. This key will be marked either as CRT/LCD or with a picture( a square with two lines on either side of the square). If you get a display there, you may need to get a technician to change the screen.

Solution for "my laptoop seems to want to boot but when is is done booting the screen turns black and remains that"

If the laptop appears to boot up and you can't see an image on the screen, you need to determine if the screen is faulty or the video card.
Connect an external monitor to the laptop's external video port, power up the monitor first and then boot up the laprop. If you get a normal video image on the monitor then the video card is OK and the fault is with the LCD screen.
If you don't get an image or POST information, then the LCD screen could be faulty or the laptop didn't boot up.
Please get back to me with the results of your tests and any error messages etc. so I can advise further.

When the LCD is black and you can see a dim image on the screen then it is a black light problem. could be a faulty inverter but mosr likely a burnt out/worn out CCFL lamp. By connecting and external monitor to the video port, you can determine weather the video card is OK.
If you don't get an image on an external monitor then the video card is faulty and it is impossible to repair except by replacing the motherboard.

Yes you should try ito adjust the brightness.
Can you see a slight image on the LCD, screen this indicates a backlight problem?
You can connect an external monitor to the video connector on the laptop, then boot it up and see if the is a display on the external monitor. You may have to press the blue Fn + one of the Function key so you can switch the video output to the external monitor. If you get an image on the external monitor then the video card is OK and the fault is with the LCD backlight. This could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or the CCFL lamp is faulty, 80% of the time it is the CCFL lamp that is faulty.
The inverter is easy to replace, the CCFL lamp requires a lot more work and requires soldering skills.

Go to www.lcdparts.net for parts and/or repair service and DIY info.

Gateway laptop 450 rog

be sure to circle through possible screen.
use FN key + a key with a screen symbol on your keyboard (or check your doc) to switch from main screen to external monitor and back.
sometime some techies use external monitor for pc final test and forgot to restore configuration to laptop screen.
At restart XP is expecting the last used monitor and nothing shows on laptop screen.
try also connecting any external monitor to vga plug.
let me know if is fixing
