HP Pavilion zd8000 Upgrades

I have an HP Pavilion zd8000, and the hard drive died on me. A friend had a smaller 40GB hd that he helped me put in just to get me running again, but I am now looking to purchase a new larger HD. Can anyone tell me what the max expansions that will be compatible for this laptop? I want to upgrade the video card (current-ATI Mobility Radeon X300 64MB), the HD, and the RAM(current 1MB DDRII SDRAM 400MHz). I appreciate the help. Thanks!

Thank you very much. I really appreciate the help. I was really hoping that the video card could be upgraded. Mine is not very powerful. Thanks again though.

I have the same laptop. though your video card is independent, it is still integrated into the system and cannot be upgraded, your only be there is to go to the Radeon website and download the latest drivers for it.(it helps) As for your Ram, you can only upgrade to 2 mb of ddr2.(on mine it made a noticable difference) As far as the hd goes i believe sky is the limit, i went from 100 gb to 160 no problem

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

This model laptop came with a 60Gb hard drive and it will work with a 40Gb hard drive.
If it was me I would install a 60 Gb hard drive not a smaller one.

What is the max hdd capacity I can install in a HP ZD8000 laptop?

Your computer uses ATA drives which topped out around 250MB simply because manufactures switched over to SATA drives. It is a pain to change out disks on laptops since you can only have one internal drive. You then have to reload everything.
Here is one I found: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVE 250GB 5400 RPM 2.5" ATA-6 Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
  • 250GB
  • 5400 RPM 8MB Cache
  • ATA-6

I'd consider one of the external USB disks instead to store your data, pictures, etc. You could then put it on your desktop or on a new notebook.

Have zd8000, and have purchased a 500gb hrad drive. Does this model allow physical space for the use of parallel drives. Many thanks Jorge

I think you want to partition the 500GB hd.

Yes, you can partition it into smaller logical drives. You need to do this upon installation of the operating system, or use something like, Partition Magic, etc, afterward.

Good Luck

How do I remove my hard drive from my zd8000.

Turn the laptop over on its back and look for the "L" shaped access cover by the fan grill. Remove the access cover screws and pry the cover off. Grip the mylar tab on the hard drive and move it away from the connector that attaches the hard drive to the motherboard.

I don't know if you can call this a solution but I hope this points you in the right direction...

I personally trust WD over Seagate. Their external drives work like a dream. As for the size you wish to go with, well that is up to you. It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. Sometimes its cheaper to get the bigger size than to get the smaller one and spend more when you fill up what you have. I managed to buy a 500GB HD from Fry's for $130. Before I stray away from the issue, I would choose a WD drive, 320 over 250 GB, and I would get a friend who knows a thing or two about removing a hd from a computer so you can take it with you (just to make sure you get set up with a hd that is compatible).

Other factors that you may run into are RPM speeds. I believe they are 5400 and 7200. The faster it is then the faster things load. I also believe that the faster it is, the hotter it will get and the more power it will require. If you are concerned with getting a bigger hd then stick with what you know works, that being a 5400 rpm drive.

If you are really picky about things, I suggest going to cnet.com and reading reviews on the hd's before buying. Their reviews are very useful, they list user reviews, will compare prices with other vendors who sell the hd being reviewed and tell you if its priced according to performance or overpriced compared to similar models.

Hope that helps...

Maxtor 40gb hard drive as master

Hi, Below is an image of a Maxtor 3.5 HD settings as shown on the actual HD. If you are connecting 2 of them in a single IDE flat cable/strip, one must be master and the other must be slave. Jumper settings on the left is for master, the second is for slave. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Harddrive

You are best putting in the same speed hard drive as came out, ATA 6 has a faster transfer rate 100mbps as opposed to ata/ultra ata being around 66mbps, these are readilly available although more expensive than a regular desktop HDD.
