Question about Abit AV8-3rd Eye Motherboard

ABIT AV8 not reading SATA ASUS DVD Burner

I have the ABIT AV8 motehrboard and am running one SATA hard drive on channel 0 and an ASUS SATA dVD burner on channel 1. My rpoblem is that even though the DVD drive shows up under "My Computer," it won't read any disks inserted unless I reboot the computer. I don't have extensive knowledge of SATA and RAID configurations, so any help in resolving this matter would be appreciated.Thank you.

I have a similar problem with the AV8 3rd Eye and an Asus DVD burner. It takes ages to load DVD's and even when it does it sometimes disappears from the device manager. Have you managed to solve your problem?

I did manage to fix the problem. the issue was in the registry. I was using some software that changed the value sin my registry, causing my drives to not read properly. I know what you mean with the lag using SATA with this motherboard. I have just learned to live with it since everything else is functional now. If I can remmeber where I found hte fix, I'll post here for you.

I solved this differently - I just connected the drive via a USB-to-SATA adapter and all is well. I guess my motherboard's SATA controller can't handle modern SATA2 drives properly. The USB adapter did the trick.

Suggest you connect the plextor to the SATA port 3 and set it's jumper to Master. All SATA drives are seen as Master drives. (Check the serial number on your WD SATA drive "Primary".
Enter the bios menu. Within page 3-7 section 3-3 Advanced bios features. Check, 1st, 2nd and third boot devices.
Floppy disk drive as, 1st boot device. 2nd boot device, "Primary WD SATA port 1". 3rd boot device, CD-ROM drive SATA port 2, Plextor 880sa drive". Save and exit the bios. If you no longer have you're manual you can download it from the link provided below;
http://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/fae/ic7-g_eng_v101.pdf
Check page 3-13. See OnChip serial ATA Mode. As noted, the RAID option is available when the item "OnChip serial ATA" is set as [Enhanced Mode].

I have a asus p4v8x-x motherboard which earlier had an IDE connected Dvd burner but now i want to install a SATA burner i have connected the drive on my SATA port but my computer does not show identify it

Hi, you can download a manual here:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P4V8X-X&p=1&s=15

Please select your operating system.
Select manual and click on global for download.
Unzip the file before you can read it.

Maybe its just a setting in the bios that does that.

Be sure to enable the IDE and or PATA/SATA controler in the BIOS settings. Set first boot device to main Hard drive.

Dvd drive replacement

Get a PATA also called IDE drive. They are cheap and will work great in your box.You don't need the speed of SATA for a DVD drive.Even though they make SATA drives. Pata's data tramsission rareis much faster than even the fastest DVD. You have a four device potential for you IDE on your motherboard and only a two device potential for your SATA. Save the second SATA port in case you want to add a second hard drive some day

Yes you can but only if at least one of them is a sata drive presumming that u have a dvd drive too. You could have 2 hard drives on the main ide channel and on the other a hard drive and dvd drive. The other drive would have to be a sata type one and connect to one of the sata ports on board.

Hope this helps?
