Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

System software update to 2.43

Installed system software update 2.43, progress bar went to 100% and then came up with the message: Press PS button using wireless controller. Pressing the button did nothing. Restarting the system resulted in the same screen. Tested controller by inserting a disc but could not eject using the remote, only the front panel button. Changed batteries in the controller - still no control. Complete freeze. Is there a way out? Thanks

I have tested controller with friend's system meanwhile, and I know that it works fine. It is the PS3 that froze, and so far, nothing will get it out of that screen.

Problem solved: The PS3 button needs to be pressed with the sixaxes controller connected via USB. Wouldn't talk to it wireless. I also needed to reset the controller via the reset button on the bottom of it and register again as number 1. After that, very simply, follow the instructions and "she'll be right" as we say it down under.
    Cheers

Did you already make sure that your controller is connected via the usb cable first?

Well looks like it's time to call Sony. Make sure you don't break that seal! Usually even if it's out of warranty they'll cover the problem as a "courtesy" because it's actually they're fault for your console screwing up. Let us know what they say.

When i turn on my ps3 it says, hard disc corrupted and will be restored. I click yes the bar goes 100% and the same message cames again. can you help me please

with your console off, hold power button down until it turns on, it will beep and while still holding it in a few seconds will beep again. connect your controller, press ps button and it should bring you to a screen with 6 options. Chose number 5 this will reformat your corrupt drive so you can operate your system. However it will wipe your memory off the drive and you'll have to start from scratch. This is the only way to fix this problem at this point.

Tip

How to access Safe Mode on Playstation 3.

Execute safe mode when the PS3™ is experiencing the following symptoms:
  • When the PS3™ system is started up, the XMB™ menu is not displayed (only the wave screen background appears)
  • When the PS3™ system is started up, nothing appears on the screen
  • When the PS3™ system is started up, a message stating [The hard disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored.] is displayed > [OK] > Restore operation > Restart
Original message is displayed again or the system stops during restoration.
  • When the PS3™ system is started up, a message stating [The hard disk's database will be rebuilt.] is displayed > [OK] > Rebuild > Failure > System stops while formatting hard disk drive.
  • The system stops while restarting after a PS3™ system update or while updating or rebuilding the database. The situation does not improve even when the system is restarted.

***********************************************************************************
Step 1: Turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.

Step 2:
  1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is powering on.
  2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
  3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).

Step 3:
  1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
  2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
  3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."
    safemode1.jpg //
  4. Connect a USB cable to the controller and the PLAYSTATION 3 and press the PS button to enter Safe Mode.
  5. Then you will see the Safe Mode menu.
    safemode2.jpg //

Step 4: We recommending performing the safe mode options in the following order until one of the options works for you. If one of the options work, do not continue onto the other options.
  1. Restore Default Settings
  2. Restore File System
  3. Rebuild Database
  4. Restore PS3 System
**************************************************************************************

In Safe Mode, you will have the following options:
  1. Restart System - Ends safe mode and starts up the PLAYSTATION 3 normally.
  2. Restore Default Settings - Performs the same operations as [Restore Default Settings] on the XMB™, and also deletes PlayStation®Network account information from the system.
  3. Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered.
  4. Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
  5. Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step.
This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.
  6. System Update - Updates the PS3 system software. This can only be done with an update file already saved on an external storage media.

Its Harrisss i jailbreaked my ps3 to 3.41 nd i want to update it now to go online when i click system update it installs it and when it gets to 100 it goes looking for update and then says file curupted so...

Well, because you have rolled back the firmware version you may be experiencing problems because of it. Try to do a manual update with a usb stick. Put the firmware on the thumb drive and press and hold the power button until it shuts off, then press and hold it again until you hear 3 beeps. Let Go! You should come across the 'safe mode' which has 6 options to choose from once you connect your controller and press the PS button. Choose 'system update'. If this doesn't work, you will need to change your hard drive. Be sure to download the firmware from the official Playstation website.

ello,

Follow the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION.
• Restore PS System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your PS.

Update your PS (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

Take care.

well you have no choice but to turn it off...hopefullly when you reboot the machine it will attempt to reinstall the firmware..usually that is what the unit does. if it freezes again at 100percent it very well could be the 3rd partion sector of your SATA drive....ive seen this before.

Ps3 System Update Failed, PS3 boots with error code 8002F14E.

-Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
-When the update begins, pull your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again. Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for about 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. If you do not get this msg after 30 seconds, do it again until it does! Now, slide your HDD into place again - (make sure your controller is PLUGGED IN) and press the white PS3 button on the controller. It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR white PS3 Button - PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to user agreements!! Simply hit cancel and it will kick back to the PS3 start up screen.
