Question about Whirlpool AWM6120 Front Load Washer

Whirlpool Front Load Washing Machine Model no: AWM8121

I recently purchased a Whirlpool Front Loader Washer for my family. A coin was left in the wash (a problem with 4 children). Resulting in damage to the front tub (531).

I have had the tub repaired by a commercial plastic welder. On completion of reassembly, I have faced a number of problems and was wondering if you could give me some guidance.

I have commenced the test sequence with the following results:

The temperature display remains blank
The drum speed LED remains on zero
The cycle LED remains on 'Drain Spin'
The test sequence appears to enter step one only. When pressing the prewash button to advance to step three, it appears to enter step three but stops.

To test further, rapid cycle was tried with the following results:

The cycle takes some water (approx 2cm visible).
The drum rotates a couple of times each way.
After this the house mains circuit breaker is tripped.
LEDs appear to be OK as they are indicating drum speed and wash.

This appears to be an electrical problem. The only areas that were disconnected in the disassembly and subsequent reassembly were:

The two wires from the Motor (1200 MCA 61), at the rear tub, and
The four wires at the Heating Element (240V, 531).

I labeled the wires to the heater element but my labels fell off. Could you please advise me of the colour coding of the four wires to the heater. Is it possible that my current problems are caused by an incorrect connection to the heater?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer

Regards

Greg

Hi greg,

you may be right about the incorrect wire connection, since you get no error messages on the LCD display.

go to http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/wiring_main.htm and put in your model #. it will give you the electrical schematic.

you may need a technician for this one, if you don't know how to read a schematic.

I HAVE A WHIRLPOOL TOP LOADER MODEL 3LSR6253E01 MY WASHING COMES OUT COVERED IN LINT. I CANT FIND A FILTER ON THE MACHINE IS THERE ONE? PLEASE HELP THANKS KATE

All washing machine have lint filters to protect the pump, but they generally have quite large holes and although called 'lint' filters, they are to stop baby socks and coins getting into the pump. They are always at the bottom of the machine behind the front kick panel on a front loader or under the agitator on a top loader.

If your washing comes out covered in lint, you need to find the item that is shedding it. May also be paper tissues left in pockets. We only have one item that sheds lint and that is a bathmat. We wash it separately.

Take a look at this video.

We have an awm8121 and there seems to be a fault on the Spin cycle indicators with th 0 RPM and the 800 RPM flashing..

We can't seem to get the frontloader to finish the drain cycle and continue into the next was.

The last load of washing was still saturated when we managed to open the door.

Which washing machine is better front load or top load?

Front load washing machines are better than top load money wise.

One advantage of a front loading washing machine is an increased capacity. Since there is no central agitator, the horizontally-oriented drum can hold at least 20 to 30% more clothing per load. For a large family, this could mean running only three loads in a front loading washing machine compared to five in a top loader. Fewer loads often translates to savings in utility bills and water usage.

Another advantage of a front loading washing machine is less water and detergent usage. A top loading washer must use enough water to cover the highest level of the clothes. A front loading washing machine, on the other hand, only uses enough water to cover approximately the lower third of the tub at most.

We have a Whirlpool awm8143 model front loader. works fine

this could signify that you have the outlet hose to far down the outlet pipe of the machine, or if you have it plumbed in to the plumbing under the sink you could have dirty sink water flowing back into the machine
