I bought the HP 4215 printer and loaded the CD that can with it. When I try to Use the Scan option, it does not work. Am I missing the Scan Software?

The problem is with Windows Vista...it does not recognize the scan button when you touch it on the scanner. There are two ways around this:
Go to Programs / Windows Fax & Scan / Click new scan / click file and then click scan
OR
Go to Accessories / Paint / Cick File /click from scanner or camera / click scan

If you get the message, "run or install software device" the problem is an incompatibility between Internet Explorer 7 and the HP Director software. Go to the HP software/driver site and get the update for the HP Director.

i am running an old computer with windows me not that that should matter because i've ran this all in one on it for about two years. then one day it just said that jjthe software for this option was not installed(scan). I uninstalled and reinstall a hundred times and still no scan. In the device manger it says it is running find. tried updating driver still no scan. I'm about to go nuts

But I have used it on this computer for about 2 years now and one day it just decided to say I needed to run device or software for this function. I have unistalled and reinstalled a 100 times I have replaced usb wire. i do know the hp director will not open either. please help i'm going crazy trying to figure this thing out
Mine sometimes scanned, sometimes refused to asking for a software device. Now the scan function absolutely stopped working.
I loaded the software also. it worked for a while, then stopped scanning.
