No special tool needed (usually). The armature is resting on a tapered part of the shaft. Assuming that you have removed the stator and have exposed the armature and have removed the center bolt. Apply penetrating oil to shaft so that the oil can enter between shaft and armature (wait for oil to work at least half hour). Hold piece of hardwood against metal part of armature (first one side then other) and rap very firmly with heavy hammer. Be careful not to hit metal directly or wiring. If the oil has done its work, the armature will come off with first couple of hits. If not add more oil and wait. Then try again. Good luck.

I'm fixing a coleman powermate 5000W and i need to know how to get the armature back on to the crankshaft

Best I can do is the IPB, at least it will show you where things are supposed to go. Make sure when you put it back on that it is as straight as you can get it or if possible, leave bolt loose and tighten after rest of housing is in place, but from IPB view this might be dreaming.

The shaft from the motor is coned shaped. Tapping it or prying it works.

Im replacing engine on a model pm0525202 generator. i cant get armurature off shaft

Assuming that you have removed the stator and the center bolt, (1) apply penetrating oil to space between engine shaft and armature and wait for a few minutes. (2) Then apply carb cleaner to same area and wait for a few minutes. Find a very hard piece of wood like ash or oak and place on metal part of armature and strike firmly with hammer first on one side then the other. If it does not come loose on first attempt start over from step one. The engine has tapered shaft that really holds on to armature. Huge heavy hammer will not help. What works is the vibration of the hammer blow. That is why you need hard wood. Good luck and be patient, let oil do its magic.

HOW DO I REMOVE THE ARMATURE FROM THE POWER SHAFT OF A COLEMAN CONTRACTOR 30000 AS THE COOLING FAN AND ARMATURE COMPONENTS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC??

Most of these require one to insert a bolt in the end of the shaft and use a slide hammer to decouple the rotor from the engine. There is a keyway typically... possibly a Woodruff key.

Pull armature on generator from engine

Put the armature thru bolt in and back off about two turns. Smack the thru bolt hard with a hammer and the armature will release from the tapered crankshaft. You may damage the thru bolt. If so either get a new one or use a piece of all thread and a nut.

How do you separate the generator from the engine on a honda eb 6500x generator. It seems as if the generator is frozen to the output shaft unless there is a hidden bolt or something.

unbolt from the engine then it will just pull of leaving the armature still in place on the crank shaft you may need to use a puller to get it moving

Separate the Crankshaft and the generator armiture

Here is the secret.... Remove the end cap of the armature and the long bolt securing armature assy to the engine shaft.

Tip the generator vertical so that the bolt hole is UP.

Put several rags on the back of the engine that is facing up. (Important)

Find or purchase a bolt of exact size at least 3 inches long that will screw into the hole that is facing up.

(With bolt in hand)

Fill the hole all the way to the top with any OIL.

Thread the bolt into the hole and turn with a wrench.

When the aramture separates it most often will make a BANG and scare anyone nearby!

Lift armature away from the engine.

Use rags on the back of the engine to clean up oil mess.

That is it in a nutshell.

Thanks for using FixYa!

How do you seperate the generator from the engine

there is screws that mount it to the main frame take those off then the engine is free but still with the electric parts ther are screws that take apart the engine from the generator unscrew those with a socet rench than insid there will be 4 more take them off and the it is one engine with no generator!!!
the only problem is now your gas tank is in the top off the frame so you will need a different gas tank it you will build somthing around the engine itself.
That one was easy!

Remove generator from engine

Pull the end off the generator and you will have to buy or borrow an armature puller to remove the armature. It threads into the end of the shaft and pushes it off. I've seen many people destroy their generator by prying with screwdrivers. The engine has a tapered shaft and is sort of useless for any other application other than a generator.
