You would either format or delete all of the data from this drive if it has an operating system on it you would format it

you have to format your hard drive using a third party disc to erase everything on your hard drive

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos restart

note this will erase you operating system you will have to have an operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system
note after you have loaded the operating system you should go back and change the first boot device to failsafe or optimised defaults

after windows has loaded
your computer will automatically restart it might restart 2 times one to finish the installation
the next will be because the operating system is loaded and will boot from your cd
during the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

The BIOS is AMI. Under ADVANCED SETUP:
The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include:
IDE0 means Pri master
IDE1 means Pri slave
IDE2 means Sec master
IDE3 means Sec slave

or if you are using a USB

insert your usb drive

click start right click on my computer select open you should see your USB drive
right click then select format
another way is to control panel administrive tools, computer management disk management right click on your drive select format

Hard drive not showing dirve letter

With a Windows system, take care that drive has been properly partitioned and properly formatted. In Windows, drive letters can be assigned.

Go to the hard drive management utility in the administrator section of Windows to manage the drive.

I cannot give advice for other OS's than Windows.

How to reformat a external hard drive to ntsf

Insert the USB hard drive into the PC's USB port.
Go to Control Panel - Administratve Tools - Compurt Management - click on Disk Management - scroll down and click on the external haqrd drive, delete the HPFS partition (this is the MAC file system), create a new partition NTFS - format this partition.
If you want to use this external dirve to exchange data between the PC and the MAC the format this hard drive in FAT32.
The MAC can read and write files in FAT32.

Hi All Req. to all please provide me confirmation regarding "one key recovery" firstly i must tell you i am using netbook lenovo "s10 series windows 7, now if i format hard disk(C:)...

Hi nishantsi762,

You can still use the One Key Recovery after formatting your drive C and installing XP. Just make sure that you will not reformat the whole hard drive because One Key Recovery image is in the hidden partition of your hard disk.

Hope it helps,

Thank you for using Fixya.

I have partetion the hard disc by two drives. when i connected with pc it has detected and open tha hard disc dirve . it is asking "You want format the disc". How can i open the drive. please help me.

If you partitioned the drive and didn't store the old partition table then the data on the drive is lost.

There are ways to recover it if you didn't write anything to the new partitions.

If there wasn't any important data on the drive then format it. You have to format every new partition after partitioning before you can use it.

Media test failure; check cable

it seems like a hard drive failure or the hard dirve not seated well. I'm assuming this caz you cannot boot up. Try reseating the hard drive and try again, If still not working, try and listen for any clicking noise from the hard dirve.
