You just have to keep the printer in the ON condition and lift the upper cover which also contains the scanner unit .do not just lift the scanner lift whole upper unit its like a flap it will be easily lifted.and after lifting the cartridges will move and come to the position and stop at the position at which you have to remove the cartridges from the printer.its very easy you just have to pull the cartridge towards your self do it slowly to understand the procedure.so you can do it normally next time.in the same way you can insert the cartridges.

I have been given a canon pixma MP160 with no ink cartridges. what sort do I look for in the store.?

This printer uses 2 ink cartridges.
  • Ink Cartridge Configuration 1 black cartridge, 1 color cartridge (cyan, magenta, yellow)
You need to purchase the cartridges that suit this model printer.

If the printer does not print properly then the printhead may be faulty and needs to be replaced, BUT these are expensive. It may be better to put your money towards a new and better printer as a new printer is not much more expensive than the cost of a new printhead.

Hello,

Please follow below instruction. Otherwise, visit this link. Link
We hope we have provided you a solution to your problem.

Thank you.

The Canon Pixma Mp160 is an all-in-one printer, scannermag-glass_10x10.gif and fax machine. Replacing the cartridge in the printer requires little effort. Make sure to use the correct replacement cartridges for your MP160; installing the wrong cartridge type could prevent your printer from working or cause it to fail. Use caution to prevent ink spilling or dripping on you.

Step 1 Identify the cartridge that requires replacement. Press the "Copy" button to display the ink level. "BLK" indicates your black ink cartridge; "COL" indicates your color cartridge. If the display is only one bar (or none), then the cartridge should be replaced.

Step 2 Open the top compartment (scan lid) on your Canon printer. Pull back the compartment support legs to hold it open.

Step 3 Put on gloves, and then push the cartridge down to unlock it. Pull it toward you to remove it from the printer.

Step 4 Remove the tape strip from the replacement ink cartridge. Insert the new ink cartridge (black on the left, color on the right) at an angle, with the gold circuit facing down and towards the front of the printer. Push the cartridge up to lock it in place.

Step 5 Repeat the process if you are replacing multiple cartridges. Close the scan lid when you are finished. If the "Low Ink" warning does not go away, then turn the printer off, wait a few minutes and turn it on again.
