Brushes not rotating on my Hoover Steam Vac Dual

My 2 year old Hoover Steam Dual Vac Model # F7425-900 do not rotate. I have cleaned out the lint trap at the bottom of the machine as recommended. Any suggestions and if so where can I find a diagram on how to fix it.

Thanks
Bob

The brushes won't spin. It seems like it is not catching.

I have the same problem, now for the 2nd time. I had some part replaced, motor or something, will let you know when I find receipt. Used it in August for literally 900 sq ft of DIRTY carpet (wife is a teacher and did her carpets) no problems. Took it out today, 2months later, and the brushes don't rotate. The hand held attachment does rotate though. All other parts work accordingly, but w/o the brushs it is just moving water around.

I have had my steam vac for 2+ yrs and has done a great job. Turned it on 2 days ago and the brushes not turning. Check snap in of the brush bar and cleaned all parts. Would this be the turbine causing the problem?

My brushes are not rotating either. They stopped once before and started going again, but now they appear to have stopped for good. I called a service department and they are closing. Now what do I do?

The brushes are all connected to a single shaft. This square shaft is connected to 2 sets of gears and then another shaft which is turned by an impeller (suction from the vaccum pump is used to turn the impell and thus the brushes). There are 2 bearings that the impeller shaft turns on. It's likely these are rusted up and just need a bit of WD 40. Took me 30 min to take apart, lube, and put back together. Remember, its plastic. If things won't come apart, look for another screw. Mine was a brand new unit and the top bearing was rusted.

If you cant spin the brush by hand then you have a bad turbine.

When I took it back to a Hoover repair service they replaced the turbine (under warranty as it was replaced in March 08, this happeded in my prev post). My theory is that the turbine gets water blow by from the waste tank, you can see foam entering the screen area. I found that emptying the waste bucket more often was the solution. I didn't wait until it shut off suction. I think the float needs to be redesigned to a ball in a cage as my Craftsman shop vac has which works well.

Good luck.

My machine is a little more than a year old. I have used it about 5 times. It started leaking the third time I used it. The fourth time I took it out, the brushes would not spin (I did clean them and rinse them after use each time).
Now the engine screams and won't **** anything up. Do you have any suggestions? My last Hoover Steam Vac was great and lasted for 3 years! Hi,
I have a Hoover Dual V SteamVac F7425-900 that the brushes won't spin. The lint screen is clean & the brushes switch is in the on position.
It dispenses & sucks up the cleaning solution & water; just no brush action. Help

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The only thing that I can recommend is that you may have a bad switch, some vacs may have a broken belt or the drive mechanism inside the Hoover Dual V SteamVac F7425-900 in or by the brush assm section and is need of repair. Please check the trouble shooting section of the owner’s manual if you’re needing help and to save money. If you don’t have one then contact the Hoover factory cust serv. So, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover steam vac, brushes won't rotate, have cleaned filter by brushes, removed brushes and they rotate okay when off steam vac, tried to ajust level for carpet cleaning and brushes still don't move

Check to see if the shaft on the brush block hasn't broken off. Otherwise it is the turbine that drives the brushes and is either clogged up inside or needs to be replaced.

Take out the brush block, make sure that the shaft is ok, it goes up into the turbine, which is what drives the brushes. If the shaft is ok, then the turbine either needs to be cleaned and lubed, or replaced.

If this is a Hoover Steam vac, the turbine which drives the brushes is bad. If not a Hoover, then what is it, they are different, need brand and model number.

The brushes do not rotate

The brushs are driven by a turbine, if not turning, it may be bad. You can take it apart and try to clean it out, or just replace it. Also pull out the brush block and see if the shaft that goes up into the turbine is broken off, itis broke, then replace the brush block.

If you are talking about the brush block, take it out and see if the shaft that goes up into the turbine is broken off, if not, then the turbine has gone bad and will have to be replaced. The turbine is what turns the brushes.
