Question about Internet & Communication Software

Mozilla Thunderbird setup

I downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird but I cannot figure out how to set up Thunderbird to access my MS Hotmail and Gmail accounts. Thunderbird Help is no help at all – it doesn’t even address this issue.

1. Shouldn’t I be able to do this through the Thunderbird New Account setup without installing additional software?

2. What should I enter in the Thunderbird New Account setup screens for IMAP, POP, SMTP, and so on?

Google Gmail Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
The Gmail SMTP server requires authentication (use the same settings as for the incoming mail server)
The Google Gmail SMTP Server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) on port 465.
GMail uses POP3 over an SSL connection, so make sure your email client supports encrypted SSL connections.
Google Gmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 995)Outgoing Mail Server - use the SMTP mail server address provided by your local ISP or smtp.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 465)

I am asked to provide a password to access my email. It came up suddenly.Previously I never had to use a password.I am the only PC user.Helmut

Mozilla Thunserbird is an email client. Honestly, I've stopped using emal clients since about ten years, when gmail was launched so I have no isea how and why Mozilla Thunserbird is using passwords. Strange that a password should appear when you haven't define one. Sometime problems like this happen because of some prank; someone get access to your computer and inputs a passwoer. OK, if not the case, excuse me, just a wild guess.

Here you have some infor about Mozilla Thunderbird pasmaster password

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/master-password

In any case, if you can't solve this password issue, my advice is, access your email throug webmail. Btw, if you have gmail, hotmail or yahoo, you can manage your mal way better directly throug the web then for an email client..
Once you've got all your mail, uninstall Mozilla Thunserbird and reinstall it, so you shiould remove this passwoerd.

How do I access Thunderbird e-mails stored on a hard drive from a computer that died? The hard drive is now attached to a docking station attached to a laptop that is running the same version of...

I take the emails were set up as POP3?
If that is the case and the emails ONLY exist on the hard drive, what you need to do is access the hard drive itself. If the hard drive displays on your Drives and Storage window, then select the drive that is connected to the and click on the Program Files and open Thunderbird from the HDD in the docking station. You can then select to re-mail them to yourself, or there may be an import/export option.

Can not access hotmail, gmail or yahoo sign in pages

Try using another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and if they also do not work, then you probably have a network firewall issue: try disabling first on your Computer and additionally on your modem/router.
If using Firefox or Google allows access to Hotmail, Gmail the the issue is with IE Security Option: start by looking at the internet secuirity level (set to medium-high and remove protected mode) and restricted sites list (delete addresses with hotmail and gmail if they appear in that list).
Hope it helps.

Mail disappears after it has downloaded in Mozilla Thunderbird

You probably have setup a POP access on your Thunderbird to download your mails from your webmail. POP will download all of your message from your wembail to your Thunderbird and will place all of these message in your Thunderbird's inbox. Regardless if those message where sorted in different folders in your webmail.

In order for your mails to stay on your webmail you need to enable a setting in your Thunderbird that will leave a copy of your messages in your webmail. You can follow the steps below to check this setting:

On your Thunderbird

1.) Click Tools
2.) Click Account Settings
3.) Click Server Settings underneath the account that you setup.
4.) Verify that 'Leave messages on server' is checked in the server settings section

I hope this one will help.

Changing software program from Netscape

Firefox without a doubt is the best browser. it's fast, safe and there are plenty of add-ons available for it. you can go here to download --

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.0.5&os=win&lang=en-US

as far as e-mail --
if you want web based e-mail you could just use your internet provider. or go with Hotmail.

if you want a Desktop Aplication - thunderbird is popular and comes from the same people as firefox

Download thunderbird here ---

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=thunderbird-2.0.0.18&os=win&lang=en-US

Hope this helps
