The light power is blinking

Sir

Routers seem to be sensitive to electrical surges and noise (which are both more common during thunderstorms). This can cause them to loose their settings. You should keep your router plugged into a high quality surge suppressor with EMI/RFI filtering,

To try to recover your router, you will need to start by trying to reset your router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:

1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the Start button -All Programs -Accessories -Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: ping 192.168.1.1 (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... or Request timed out. If you see Reply from ..., your computer has found your router.
10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter admin (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.

If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.

If you cannot get "Reply from ...in step 9 above, your router is dead.

If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.

If you need additional help, please state the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.

Please let me know how things turn out for you

For some odd reason my wifi light on netgar isnt lighting (desktop computer) . but im trying to hook my laptop through it and it wont let me, whats wrong?

Hi, the wireless light will not lit up if it has been disabled on the configuration or the router has been reset in the past. The only way to get the wifi working is by reconfiguring it. Please perform the steps below to reset and reconfigure the router:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router(isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that THERE IS NO DIRECT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MODEM AND THE COMPUTERS (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

RECONFIGURE:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the username and password is case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
Once online on the main computer connected through the router. Perform the following tasks to configure the wireless connection:
On the router settings page

1. Click on wireless settings from the left menu.
2. Select security options as 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)'.
3. Set the 'Authentication Type' as 'Automatic'.
4. Set the 'Encryption Strength' as 64-bit.
5. In Key 1 type a 10 digit number.
6. Apply the settings.

Scan for the wireless network on the laptop and connect to your network.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Changed from AT&T to a cable company for DSL. Trying to set up

You need to "fool" your cable box into thinking that the wireless router is the computer. This just means that the modem is locking into the first ip address it can get... it tends to block out all others. Here's how to remedy and allow everything to get access...

1 Shut off computers, routers, everything.
2. Turn on your wireless router FIRST... leave everything else off until you see it's completely booted.
3. Then with the cable connected to the modem/cable box and the router, turn on the cable box/modem and let it cycle up. This should allow the cable modem to "find" the wifi ip address as the main ip.
After that, turn on any other routers, and the computers...
This should allow you access to the net by any of your computers because the wifi router should give all the other comptuers and routers on the system inddividual ip addresses and all should be well...
Give it a try and let me know!

I can't set up my wireless protection security error message " wireless security unable to set up"

hi i guess you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.

This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.

If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working. If you still have trouble setting up wireless security, please explain exactly what you are trying, and exactly what is (or is not) happening. What exactly is stopping you from setting up wireless security?

If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.

If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
