Hello, I have a LG rear projection tv model number LG 52SZ8R-ZA that has recently stopped working at 100%. The screen appears alot duller as though the brightness has been turned right down. Is the problem with the tv or does the lamp need changing? The tv is 5-6 years old. Cheers for any help. Barry.

Hello, You can get better prices for bulbs on the Internet. I went through this problem with my set.
Sometimes there is an upgrade in bulb Wattage on an individual basis by Model. What you may be having problems with is a system called a "Light Engine". This assembly has the power module and a spinning part called a "Light Wheel".
Your problem then can be from any of these devices. Your old bulb could have a dark spot (As normal light bulbs can develop), a weak power module, or a light wheel not spinning at the correct RPM for clarity.
You can take a chance and try a new bulb yourself or call for a Technician to give you either a "Convergence Set-up" or Evaluation and Repair estimate.
I learned about the insides of these TV's from the Front-Projectors and my own Rear-Projectors which had Warranty Recalls. So I have seen Messed-up and know what it looks like and somewhat about the causes and cures.

If you are getting a Convergence service, you may want to get the Estimate, then install a new bulb through the Internet, and then get it all set up fresh with the new bulb.

Hello John:
If you replace the DLP lamp out of your Zenith or LG, you will need to reset the counter...otherwise you may get an annoying reminder every few days if you're surpassed the predetermined hour mark.

To Reset:

Ensure the TV is powered on.

1) Press and HOLD the MENU button on the TV
2) Press and HOLD the MENU button on your REMOTE
(hold both these until the service menu pops up 5-10 secs max.)
3) Let go of the REMOTE button first, then release the button on the TV
4) Press and HOLD the ENTER (or OK) button on the TV
5) Press and HOLD the MUTE button on the REMOTE
(hold both until the LAMP LIFE HOURS appears on the screen)
6) Let go of the REMOTE button first, then release the button on the TV
We suggest writing your lamp hours on a piece of masking tape and taping it to the back the TV for future reference.
7) To reset the lamp counter, press SELECT (or the button in the middle of the direction arrow buttons). Hit SELECT a second time to confirm clearing the lamp counter

For certain models, you might have to tweak these steps slightly...

I have a LG 52SZ8R-TB DLP TV. I have recently had to replace the lamp. I ordered this through a certified LG repairer. Upon fitting the new lamp the TV appears to not be light enough. It is that dark I...

We had the same problem. One place changed the lamp but they couldnt work out why it was red and lots of shadows. Next mob said that it was the component so they replaced that. From the 28/4 till end of Oct, the TV has now switched itself off and wont come back on. Both places say its the lamp - however I cant see how in 6mths it would run out again. The people who replaced the lamp dont want to help, just said they will put in a new one at $521. This TV has cost us so far $1100 in repairs and it's only 3 yrs old. Not happy. The DVD recorder broke within the first year, the set top box broke in the 2nd yr and the surround system blew up (yes smoke appeared and we were lucky we were home) on the 13th month. Mind you our LG comp screen also shut down on the 13th month. Never again will I buy LG

** For a few special models (including 44SZ8D), you might have to change step 5 to:
5a) Press Enter on the TV Set to enter the Position Adjustment Screen
5b) Press and hold Enter on the TV Set (the TV should go back to the main Service Menu, continue holding Enter) and now also hold down the MUTE button on your REMOTE CONTROL. After about 5 seconds, your Lamp Life Counter should pop up.
