Check the following:

1. is the volume of your speakers up?
2. do you have bouth the the plug the goes to the pc going to right trs port? (it should be green), is it all the way in
3. if your speakers are self-powered... do you have the power cord plugged in?
4. on the sytem tray area (where the clock is) look for a gray speaker icon, left click on it.. is the volume up?.. is box that says mute unchecked?
5. on the same icon as in number 4. right click and click on open volume controls:
a. check the main volume is up and mute is not check.. check same controls for wave, audio cd and others.. make sure the controls are not only up as desired but that they are not muted.
6. did you just install a sound board?.. check it's properly configured and working by checking
device manager by gointo to start>right click my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager, look under sound and video devices.. if you see an icon with a ! or ? you may have a driver issue.. reinstall the driver that came with the sound card or download a new driver from the manufacturer website... or try to do a windows update and look for an update for your sound card.

hope it helps!

I have fitted new speakers and checked the connections which appear to be correct if the colour coding is anything to go by, and the monitor shows the speakers running but no sound.

From the computer sound output to the speaker input ... you are right it should be pretty straight forward. Is the vol turned up? Can you test the speakers with a portable radio of some kind? Is there a power supply that needs to be hooked up and does the power supply work?

Tin like sound from small speakers only. No sound

switch on your speaker set in full volume unplug it from computer touch the plug , as you touch you can hear a sound ( loud hum sound) if the speaker is working. If okay then check the right jack, plug it into green color jack. you can try if your computer is okay use a headphone plug it into the jack in PC , if the computer is okay you may hear the sound.

Connected pc to logik 32in lcd tv, getting picture but no sound

Need clarification. Do you have speakers hooked up to your computer? Or did you just plug in a VGA cable from your computer to the TV? The sound can't magically go from your computer to the TV, because VGA cables don't transmit sound. So if you are indeed using speakers, which I doubt, it's a computer problem.
Basically, describe exactly what components you have and how they are hooked up.

Speakers wont work for my Hp dc5000

You will need to disable your pc speakers. If you are running Windows XP then you can do this through control panel - Sounds and audio devices. Your external speakers should be working then if you have the correct audio software for the motherboard.

Sound

Make sure your volume is not on mute. If the speaker icon on your lower right has a red x means its on mute. To test go to control panel and double click sounds and test. If Windows sounds work without speakers then problem is with speakers. Make sure volume is up, make sure its properly connected to correct output jack (usually green or light green). Also make sure speaker power on. If those things are correct check your device manager ( right click my computer) select "manage", click on "device manager" and on right pane check to see if theres any yellow exclamation, question mark or red x on the sound device section. Yellow exclamation or question mark means to update or install correct drivers. Check your speaker box if it comes with a CD.
