you're right, i realized after i posted that i should have put more information. its a ge nautilus. i cleaned everything like you said but still having problems. it does drain, but i don't think that was really a problem. i just wasn't giving it a chance. what seems to happen is when the soap cup opens (with a loud bang), the control knob seems to get stuck, everything is still running but not progressing through the cycle. if i manually turn the control a little bit it seems to finish fine. any ideas?

The simplest solution to your problem is to check that the dishwasher drain system ( filter, pump hoses and house drain ) are all in working order..Check the following:
1. drain filter- clean as necessary
2. drain hose - check for kinks or restrictions in line
3. house drain system- make sure your house drain system is not limiting the flow of water from the dishwasher..
Then..
I suggest you clean anything that may be trapped in your drain filter ( normally found near the bottom of your dishwasher at the lowest point) of any debris,.. Then try cleaning the detergent dispenser with white vinegar and wipe out any and all soap or food byproduct that may have built up in that area.. Then.. start a wash ( without dishes) on the hottest setting and after about 10 minutes.. add in 2 cups of white vinegar and let it finish.. All of this should be done without any dishes in the system to clean thngs up..

If after all this you still have a pumping problem, you may have a defective pump or it has some foreign material in it that will need to cleaned out. lastly, it would help if you provided a specific brand and model so that the solution can be tailored to your appliance.. Hope this helps..

My Asko D1716 dishwasher works fine apart from the soap dispenser. It won't open to release the soap.

Most likely it's a corroded door catch or a bad solenoid. Hopefully it's not the main control board. You'll need a repair manual or technician. A work around would be to use detergent tablets in the compartment

Dishwasher does not clean dishes. Some soap remains in soap dish. Have tried on the enrgy saver cycle and 1 hour cycle.

Hi jerry1413,

Firstly, make sure you are using powdered soap, and not the 3 in 1 tablets. The 3 in 1 Tablets only release certain parts of itself on certain temperatures, and because all dishwashers aren't alike, they won't have the best of results on all makes & models. Cycles aren't run the same way on every Make, and don't follow the same order either. Trust Me ;-) , stick to Powder.

Furthermore, check the following link for some advice and suggestions on getting your dishwasher to clean properly again:

Kind Regards :-)

The soap holder is opening during the wash cycle but the soap tablet is not dissolving. Any ideas?

Is the water coming on? Is water hot enough? Is washer overloaded, water jets aren't hitting the soap? Maybe try a different brand of soap tablet? Run the dishwasher in "heavy soil" mode which will use hotter water and run for longer?

Tablet falls to the bottom of tub but wont disolve

The newer Whirlpool dishwashers have little slots in the top of the soap dispenser to allow water to seep in during the first water fill. This design allows the tablet to begin to dissolve during the first fill then be usefull when the soap door opens. In your case, I would check to see if the soap dish is opening at all. Perhaps one of the racks are not allowing clearance or the soap door itself is sticking closed.

Let the dishwasher fill, drain, and then fill again. Open the door of the dishwasher and see if the soap door is still closed and if so, there is your problem. Also, at this time, check the water temperature. It should be at least 120 degrees F for the soap to be effective.

Hope this helps, Ken

Dishwasher runs but does not get dishes clean

1.) Confirm that the holes of the spray arms are not blocked with debris.
2.) Run a short cycle with an empty dishwasher and no dishwasher soap. Run the dishwasher until you hear it finish filling with water and begins the wash cycle. Add up to two cups of white vinegar to the water and allow to wash and drain. Feel free to do the same when the dishwasher fills again.
3.) Only use a brand name powder detergent (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) in any dishwasher. Do not use a gel or tablet in any dishwasher. Do not fill the dispenser fully.
Test your dishwasher with a standard load of dirty dishes.
If problems continue, confirm that the heating element is working properly. The heating element is vital to getting clean dishes with modern dishwashers and DW detergent.
Please report back what you find.

Soap dispenser doesn't open

My recommendation is to switch over to a tablet and merely put the tablet on the floor of the dishwasher bypassing the soap holder all together. It should work just fine that way. good luck.

My bosch dishwasher gets stuck in wash mode. We have to turn the dial to move to the next cycle. When we check inside soap suds are built up on the bottom. We use less than a 1/2 of an Electrasol tablet,...

Have you checked it is draining properly? Partially-blocked drainage would likely be detected and cause the dishwasher to stop mid cycle, with soap suds left behind. I would check (1) the drain filters inside the dishwasher and (2) that the hose is not kinked (3) that all the S-bends etc where the dishwasher hose connects to the drain under the sink are clear.

Soap Not Mixing

Inside the soap holder there is a small spring and sometimes that comes under causing it not to open during the wash. If that is fine and you are using liquid soap try pulling a cople glasses of hot water on the latch and give it good clean because it soemtimes gets jammed up. Anymore questions give me a shout.

SMEG DISHWASHER - SUPPLIER CODE : SA8605XTD

Hi, I don't usually put the tablet in the door holder. I just place it in the bottom of the washer . I aways am concerned that there will be soap residue. So this way utensils are getting washed as soon a the washer commences .I usually scrape debris off plates and utensils before I put them in the dishwasher. This works well. Hope this works well for you. Teresa
