I CAN NOT GET MY COMPUTER TO FIND NEW HARDWARE FOR MY STREET PILOT 111 GPS,I AM USING A USB CABLE ALSO I HAVE A MAP UPDATE 2008 GARMIN FOR NORTH AMERICA.

connect your gps to your computer using the USB cable...... it will detect new hardware (usb)... minimise pop up box

go to www.mygarmin.com this site will detect your gps model...and let you update your map and software files..... you may be asked to register ..its free

it will say to download WebUpDater utility to transfer files to your gps....done

with the unit Off....

Garmin is telling you to update your Map, its wants you to buy a New Map which cost around 50 or 60 dollars.....your unit will work find for now unless you need the new map 2011 it just has the newer streets and highways. Anything over 2 years old should have a newer Map..

With the gps Off

plug in your gps to your computer using a USB cable (most cameras connect to your computer with the same usb cable)

It will say to download WebUpDater utility to transfer your map to your gps

Make sure you register your unit with Garmin at that time

You must update and buy the new map...unless your unit is a month or 2 old they may do it for free.

If you have to Register (free) make sure you remember your SECURITY LOCATION... this is where you would have to return to if you lock your unit with a pin and forgot the pin number

now go to www.MyGarmin.com it also will detect our model gps and let you update map and firmware

Perhaps your are using a low speed USB port. I once use the low speed USB and does not work. This unit only works in high speed USB. Hope this will help.

2009 upgrade data is too large for garmin 330 must have sd card

When you say you are clicking on the map, are you just using your mouse pointer to click or have you actually selected the Map Select tool at the top of your Mapsource screen?

The only way to update the maps is to purchase new maps from Garmin and download them via the computer. The 2008 map updates are currently available, and Garmin has told me new maps will be out in a few months.
