Question about Canon S900 InkJet Printer

Open Question

S900 Printer I can't figure out which two screws release the mechanism on the s900.  The "two screws at the very bottom on the outside bottom of the metal chassis inside, eludes me".  Could you please try to explain it differently?  Plus, when the printer is off and taken out of the case on the sides and top, the ink cartridges make it really hard to get to any screws.  How do I get to these screws? Or are the two screws on the the side of the printer I can get to?Do I take the entire guts out of the plastic case? The bottom seems to be pretty tough to get off of the guts.   Thanks for your time.

SOURCE: Ink cartridge (not) installed properly

Did you make sure that the colored tape was removed from the back of the ink cartridges? The manufacture puts the tape on there to protect the circuits during shipping. If the tape is still there it would not be able to communicate with the printer or computer.

SOURCE: MP760 - how to disassemble? (waste ink absorber almost full)

You really don't have to disassemble it. What would be helpful tho is some sort of long needle-nose forceps. Tho I bet you could get by with a pointy chop-stick in a pinch. There are two waste-ink absorbers on the right, and one spongy thing on the left. With the 'hood' open, allowing you access to the cartridges, you should be able to see the pads. Get a Petzl light on your forehead, you'll need a lot of light! The sponge on the left is covered by a small clear plastic trough that channels the ink into the sponge below. With enough poking and prodding you should be able to get all these out, rinse with water, dry with a hair dryer, blot out the pad areas with a kleenex, and pop them back in. Good Luck!

How to take door panel to fix The Windows

Look for several hidden screws on panel. Take those screws out. There are a couple of push caps mounted to the panel along the edge. Ur going to have to pry straight out on those till they release. ( Make sure u have all hidden and visable screws out) There is a weather strip that is outside of window that lines bottom of window that comes off. Lift straight up on molding. This gives window a little room to move for panel to lift. Ok now that u got all screws out and those push pins released grab bottom of panel and lift straight up! After that u can figure out rest! It will still be connected to the electric window and lock mechanisms! Good luck

Canon S520 printer flashes the yellow light 8 times.

This will only slightly help...my cannon printers waste tank was never actually full, there is just a built in counter system that figures when it might be getting to that point.

To reset the count before you cant print at all because of it:

A) Turn the printer off.

B) Press and hold RESUME, then press and hold the POWER button.

C) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button twice more while continuing to hold the POWER button). The printer's carriage will move a around a bit.

If by some miracle we did that correctly on the first try, you are now in "Service Mode".

D) Press the RESUME button 4 times (clear waste ink counter function). The light will change color with each key press. Press the POWER button to commit the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

Now for to check the waste pad...(excerpt from http://www.neilslade.com/Papers/inkjetstuff11.html)

  • Figure out how to open the printer by removing the side and inside top plastic panels. Just look at the thing and use your brain. Its all pressure clipped in place, no screws (at least on the S900 and similar models, probably still the same on this years models.) Look for slots and triangles on the 960.
  • On the i960 you'll have to remove the power buttons assembly on the front- take out the two screws, unplug the internal white electro connector plug CAREFULLY, then you can undo the last clip that holds the top in place.
  • No need to remove the ink cartridges in this process- so don't. The mechanism is held down in place in the case by two screws at the very bottom on the outside bottom of the metal chassis inside. Remove these screws then lift up the mechanism. It should lift out fairly easily, but remain attached by wires-- just place it on the top edge of the case.
  • You'll see the blackened (from waste ink) felt pads on the bottom. WEAR GLOVES-- this is skin indelible ink, the only thing that will get it off your hands is CLOROX. Period. There are two skinny pads that sit on top of a larger pad. Note how they fit together.
  • Lift the pads out and rinse out thorough in a sink until very little or no ink comes out. There's no need to use chemical or soap cleaners, just use plain water from the tap and the spray nozzle. Keep rinsing and squeezing the pads, but don't twist them like a towel, squeeze and fold in half however to really get the ink out.
  • Lay flat in the sun for a few hours to dry. Use a hairdryer to get the last bit of moisture out then replace in the printer, and put everything back together.
  • RESET the printer electronics, so you won't get the stupid "waste ink tank full" message any more. Do an online web search if this doesn't work for your model, although this works (or slight variations0 for many, including the 8200, the S800, and S900, and the i-series like the i869, i950, i960, etc.Two main buttons on the top of the printer- Power and the Resume:
If you've reset the code first, then cleaned the pad, you're now ready to print again.

MultiPASS Problem

WASTE TANK ALMOST FULL ERROR MESSAGE PROBLEM
This is true with many Canon Ink Jet Printers: Eventually, you'll get an error message "Waste Ink Tank Almost Full, Contact Your Canon Repair Center". Canon is totally sly about this, and is actually a pretty ridiculous design flaw that they should be ashamed of- planned obsolescence. Anyway, don't let this problem discourage buying an otherwise fantastic Canon printer. Here's the fix:
The waste ink take is actually just a felt pad that sits under the printer mechanism inside the case and absorbs the ink from your cleanings. From what I gather, its both a time consuming and expensive proposition to take to Canon to fix. And they won't tell people how to do it themselves. Well, I WILL. And this works.
Remember of course, you've got to cycle the cleaning process a huge amount of times to get this to occur.
But when it does, there is a fix-it-yourself solution that is both safe and effective for the printer, and free. You have to be slightly mechanical to do this. If you get this message and you've never used a screwdriver and are all thumbs, well, Canon gotcha. But give it a shot even then, or give it to someone halfway coordinated to do this for you.

Waste ink absorber almost full-Canon S900 inkjet

It doesn't matter if you change (wash) the waste ink pad absorber or not, if you reset the error code il will work ok. The waste ink sponge can be full if you had a lot of cleaning done since using the printer, fact is that latest after the error appears the second time, you had to clean it.
