Question about Sansui Audio & Video Receivers

3 Answers

I have an older (10 ) years Sansui am/fm receiver model rz-5500av. It performs well, but after a power surge, the fm radio will not play in stereo. The fm stereo indicator flashes on and off. I was told this might be the capacitor linked to the fm band. Is this repairable?

    This helps to define the problem and how to identify it; I wish I had received some ideas on resources to take my stereo and get it repaired.

Yes it is repairable,it seems the problem is loose connection or crack or cold solder joint,due too old already it needs to re works or resolder the solder joint so it will works better again.Its better you bring it to a electronic repair shop,maybe they will cost you ranging to $50 - $75.

Hope it may help you ;

Part of the circuit is a stereo multiplexer decoder, that decodes the fm stereo signal, I guess that is what you mean when you talk about capacitor linked to the fm band.

I do not have the sbchematics for this circuit, if you are good at electonics just grab the tester and check the whole circuit. On a radio is not difficult to find a blown capacitor.

Test also the stereo/mono switch.

You could refer to the instructions presumably available for the unnamed sub. THAT would determine the methods it can use.

Hi, My LG Home stereo posibly experienced a small power surge (all clocks in house were blinking) and now has defaulted to some odd functions and will not receive radio stations or transfer sound to the...

This definitely was as a result of a power surge but the type of power surge seems irregular you should report the surge to the authorities.
Then as regards the radio defaulting to odd functions most likely the function which your unit defaulted to are the functions with which the unit was shipped from the factory. Usually the settings just have to be made and your unit is back to normal function the advised settings can be found in your user manual.
If after setting the unit still does not receive radio then the surge must have damaged the FM receiver console inside the unit and this will have to be replaced by an expert.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
