How many lights does your modem have and how many do you see lighting? if you have only 2 lighting..you may want to contact your internet service provider and get them to reset your connection.

try using your ethernet cable... when you plug your cable to the back of your computer and to the modem... do you see lights blinking at both ends when both devices are on.. if not.. try replacing the cable for a known good cable. make sure all your cable as properly secured.

check if your internet connection settings are ready to receive an ip addres:
go to start>control pannel>network connections.. hight light local network connection (your network adapter) and right click and select properties... then in the general tab scroll down untill you see Internet protocol (TCP/IP) click on it and the click on the properties botton. in the general tab of properties.. make sure you have selected "Obtain an IP address Automatically" and down below "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

if everthing looks ok.. try to repair you connection by going to start>control pannel>network connections.. hight light local network connection (your network adapter) and right click and select enable (if disabled) or repair.

My internet doesn't work

Plug a different computer into your cable-modem or DSL-modem, to see if that computer can successfully use the modem to access the Internet.

Try a different Ethernet-cable between your modem and your computer, to see if that fixes anything.

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Network Connections
Under the "Local Area Connection" icon, do you see "network cable unplugged", or "disabled" ?
If so, connect the cable, or right-mouse-click on the icon, and choose "enable".

The Cable modem must be disconnected from the computer. You cannot use USB and Ethernet at the same time.

1. Turn off power to the Cable Modem and the Netgear Router. Do the same with the computer.
2. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port.
3. Connect another ethernet cable from one of the remaining 4 LAN ports on the router to the computer's ethernet port.

4. Now power on the Cable Modem ONLY. Wait for the modem to sync up with your service provider
5. After about 2-5 minutes power up the router and wait about 1-2 minutes.
6. Now power on your PC.

Check and see if you have internet access. If not you may have to uninstall any cable modem software related to USB connection. if this is the case, then you may have to repeat steps 4-6.

Since most cable internet providers do not use proprietary connection settings, your internet connection should be up and running without changing any settings in the router or modem.

If this does not resolve your issues, we can continue to work with you.

Make sure that the ethernet cable (looks like a big phone cable) that is coming from your modem (usually a small black box that your cable company gave you) is plugged into the Internet port on the router. You can verify that it has a good connection if the Internet light is lit. Also you should find a LAN or PC light on your modem that will also light up.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Two Questions Connecting with Belkin Wireless Router...

To answer the first question, please provide what kind of operating system you are using, and please provide the exact error message. Its probably just a caution/nag that you don't really have to worry about, but if you provide more information then so can we.
For the second question, you will need to setup the WEP on the laptop to get the laptop to connect to the router via wireless, regardless if it was used to setup the router, the wireless network is encrypted so it will need to be accessed by a computer(s) that have the key programmed into them. You can plug in the laptop into the hardwire Ethernet port for configuration, that is another option.

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
