Question about JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Disk error I loaded a prerecorded movie and the disk suddenly stopped reading and froze, before I pressed "play movie" from the dvd menu. I cleaned the disk, reloaded and it still would not play. Then I loaded other disks, which produced a "disk error" or "no disc" message. I'd also noticed that sometimes it didn't record well, but thought it was the disks. Could it be that it is just worn out and beyond repair?

I have been getting this Disc Error message when inserting all kinds of DVD's. The only thing that works are Music CD's. Have you tried a music CD?
I have a lifetime service guarentee thru the store that I bought it (not thru JVC). Took it into the store and they told me that the Optical Assembly was broken and the part was no longer available from JVC; may be OEM products available from other suppliers, but they will not repair my machine with those. Not sure if they are just BSing me to avoid the repair. I called JVC and they said most parts are still available but can not tell me for sure without a part number which the store I brought it to for repair will not tell me.

Bottom line ... your machine is probably broken and needs a new Optical Assembly, which is the laser that reads the DVD's. Whether or not you can get it repaired is questionable ... I am not sure.
Sorry I can not help more.

It could be the lens on the laser. There are special cleaning disks for that.

SOURCE: JVC DR-MX1 loading error - how can I retrieve hard disk hdd conte

well, i sympathize with your problem- it may be a bit expensive, but there are 'data recovery' services available on-line. if the data on the hd is still intact, then they can either 'burn' it to dvds, or transfer it to an external, usb hd. then, if your pc has a dvd burner, you can archive the content to dvds! store them in hard case holders-make copies and store them in a safe place! fire-resistant safe, safe deposit box, with a trusted relative or friend, in case the originals become damaged. also, use the external to archive any future pictures, or videos- then back them up on dvds! would suggest 500GB-1TB usb 2.0 external,if your pc can support it! $85-150. cheap!
might send the external along with the 180MB to whatever service you decide to go with, that will save some $$, in the long run. (or it should- research what the recovery services offer!).
good luck!

SOURCE: jvc dvd player no disc error

Hello!

I did have a similar problem. It was solved by cleaning the laser lenses/prisma. You have to dismantle the whole pick-up the to see the laser lenses.

There is one lens which is held by couple wires and below there is prisma/mirror.

I did use ear-cleaner-stick and desinfection liquid (with alcohol) for cleaning. Now it works!

SOURCE: have panasonic dmr-ez485v error message -NO READ-

I just saw the date on this message and realize that it was awhile ago. I assume that you have dealt with it by now... So for others who are trying to fix their DVD player:

I have a DMR-EZ485V DVD player and just started getting the error message "No Read." I couldn't find an answer on the internet and finally called Panasonic's customer service, (there is no charge 1.800.211.7262). Since it says "No Read" to everything--store-bought DVDs, burned DVDs, CDs; AND when there is nothing in there (it acts like it is trying to read when the tray is empty), the customer service rep thinks that I am having a lens issue. It either needs to be cleaned (can pick-up a product at Best Buy or Radio Shack) or, if that doesn't work, the lens needs to be replaced.

I was getting the same error and I could not get regular dvd or blu ray discs to play either. I dug out my old cd player lens cleaner and put it in and it started playing. I let it clean the lens for a couple minutes and now it is playing my movies again.

I'd say put an audio cd in an see if it reads it if not you may be able to get a dvd cleaner which is a disc that will clean your player internally. Hope this helps

Dvd video player

Your DVD player is having a problem reading the disc. This is what is accounting for the pausing and the slow loading times...especially if it plays other movies without hitches. Even if the DVD is cleaned, some scratching on the disc will prevent it from being viewed properly. Blockbuster shoudl give you another disc to try of the same movie if you ask. Also, you can try getting a cleaner for your DVD player to remove dust and help it read discs better.

Playing PC DVD roms problem

Dvd drives can read from both DVD and CD however due to technological limitations most DVD-ROM or RAM read up to slightly higher speeds for CDs than DVDs.

When burning DVDs professional companies that make prerecorded disks burn their disk at low speeds in an effort to achieve both compatibility and low errors, that is the reason their DVDs play on most DVD-ROMs. However DVDs me and you burn at home and work at high speeds are prone to errors and incompatibility with low reading speed drives.

As a result if your DVD-ROM has a low maximum reading speed then it can only read those prerecorded DVDs and only DVDs recorded at low speeds provided thre are not scratched.

I believe you managed to read those DVD movies if they were pre recorded.

have you tried a cleaning disk and make sure the movie disks have no finger prints on them that will stop it from loading.
