Your DVI port may be bad . You need to check it so take to near by Apple store to get it checked .

If it is under warranty replace the unit there is also chance that you might have got defective unit.

Thanks for using Fixya

Make sure first that the monitor is detected, if its not detected try first to unplug/replug the connection . But if the monitor is detected but the screen is black that is a synch problem and there's some issue on this type of setup it will be better for you to contact Gefen ex-tend-it support..

Hope thet halps.........

Use the video toggle key to transfer the picture to the cinema screen..

This is usually the F7 or F8 key, and it should say CRT/LCD or have a
small image of a monitor screen. Press both keys together, generally
once but up to four times. This combination of keys toggles the display
to show on the laptop only, the cinema screen only, or on the laptop and
cinema screen at the same time.

you may need to go into System Preferences>Displays and tell the computer to Mirror the screen and the LCD

22" Apple Cinema Display doesn't power on

This may be an issue with the display detecting the wrong video format or is using an unsupported resolution for this Apple Cinema Display 22"

Procedure:
• Make sure your Mac is turned off.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the start up sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.

If that does not help here is additional support reference from Apple regarding its LCD displays:

Let me know if this helps!

My sreen powers of my desktop

Check your pins at the connector.  I had a problem like that before and it was a student who unplugged the cable and tried to reconnect but bent 2 pins which shorted out the computer and monitor.  If that isn't noticable try connecting the monitor to another computer or laptop and if it still does the shorting issue then its in the monitor cable or board on the monitor.

Apple 20" display black screen

I've read that aftermarket DVI cable adapters don't work well with this set-up. You might try the Apple DVI to ADC adapter. It's expensive but I see them on eBay or craigslist from time to time at less than half the normal $99 cost.
