Not a hard job, but you will need a couple of tools. First, you will need a wrench that fits the nut that is holding the blade on. I prefer a closed end wrench, but an open end will do. Second, you will need a blade changing tool. The brand name is called a Blade Hog. It attaches to the deck and holds the blade in place so you can turn the nut. Raise the deck as high as it will go, attach the Blade Hog, and then loosen and remove the nut. Be sure and pay attention to which side is up on the old blade and put the new one on in the same manner.

hope this helps,
c

Mine did the same thing may need adjusting. While the engine is off turn the key on and engage the clutch, then grab the clutch assembly with your hands squeezing on the springs, check with the switch to see if it clicks if that does nothing then does the volt metter read a draw ? but if it clicks off and not back on it needs adjusted... hopr that helped

Could you tell me which blades I need to get for a Craftsman DYT 4000 to replace them myself?

You will need your model number, There should be a silver and black sticker on the side of the frame of the machine, Call Sears and get the part number. Then see if there are any cross-references that would give a similar replacement.

What engines will fit craftsman dyt 4000 (18.5 blew w/ 290 hours)

Hi there
The only thing you have to do is have the size (diameter) and lenght (from cranckcase to end of shaft) of the shaft you have on your b&s and just go to your local Honda dealer , give them your shaft size and they should be able to give you all the options for a brand new motor . I really believe you can get a Honda 20hp model GXV620 or a 24hp model GXV670 that will replace your B & S motor .
Hope this help .

Craftsman DYT 4000, 24 hp 48" deck. While I was mowing, the blades stopped turning, started again, and then stopped. I shut down, all looked OK, tried to start and nothing. No click, nothing. Any ideas?

there is a fuse in engine compartment that might have blown causing the engine or blades not to start but what probably happened was something got caught in the blades check under the deck & see if there is & also try spinning blades by hand & see what happens

Look for your model number under the seat. Sears website is www.searspartsdirect.com. It sounds like a bearing may be wearing out, or a spring on one of the brake arms is not holding the brake arms off the pulleys;
Or an idler pulley is not holding tension on the belt.
There is not adjustment I know of, just replacing worn parts. Hope this helps. Good day.
