Question about Western Digital 250GB MyBook External USB 2.0 250 GB Hard Drive
I get an error every morning stating that there wasn't enough space for the backup. My Windows XP desktop has 134 GB total harddrive (under My Computer, anyway) and 61.4 GB free space.
My Book shows 465 GB Total Size (again, in My Computer) and 221 GB Free Space. It has run backups before - so this should be updates to that backup.
I must have the settings wrong. MyBook will accept drag and drop updates - but says it doesn't have enough space for the nightly automatic updates.
I'm hoping there's a common error I've made in the update selections - any thoughts?
Thanks in advance! Trying to backup one external harddrive with around 65 GB of data onto another external harddrive (WD) with 176 GB FREE space (250 total). System is NTFS, but every time: not enough space???
It may be due to the file system. If formated as FAT32 files larger than 4gb may not transfer. Try reformatting as NTFS to fix the problem.

Is the drive formatted as FAT32?
If so, and your backup is more than 4GB, it will not be able to write the file to the drive.
Open a Command Prompt (Start | Run | CMD) and at the prompt type:
CONVERT V: /FS:NTFS /X
Where V: is the drive letter of your My Book.
That will convert it to NTFS and it will be able to handle files larger than 4GB.
