I struggled with this same problem a few years back. I tried a couple of different compatibility modes for the fastmove.exe file and finally settled on Windows 98/Windows ME mode. When you right click on fastmove.exe and enable this mode in properties, you still aren't all the way there. When you try to run fastmove in this mode you will get another error message. Something about how it could not find a file called paralnk.vxd (actually the error message mispells the file name as paralink.vxd).
Well this file is only necessary for parallel port connections which I don't think anyone uses anymore (everyone should be using USB to sync). So I got to thinking that all the Fastmove program needed to see was a dummy file called "paralnk.vxd." And I was right. So this is what you need to do.
1. Find "fastmove.exe" in your program files, right click on it, click on properties, go to compatibility tab, enable "Windows 98/Windows ME" compatibility mode.
2. Go to your Windows\system32 folder and right click on some empty space. A dialogue box comes up. Mouse over "New" then click on "Text Document." After you have created the new text document, rename it to "paralink.vxd." You will get a warning message about changing the filetype from txt to vxd, but ignore it.
It doesn't matter that the new paralink.vxd is just a dummy text file. Fastmove doesnt use the file for anything. It just wants to see that it is there.
And that is how you get fastmove working on XP. It also works in Vista.
I sure wish they would update this program, but it got discontinued. Best sync program I ever used. I wish I knew who the actually developer was. I would contact them and see if they wanted to update it on an open source project.
hi, do not choose safe mode, instead choose the start normal, If still you can not load and error exist, there might be missing of your files or your files are corrupted..Format your computer and back your important files then install new (OS) Operating System.I hope this may help you.
Method ONE
Disable the SCSI1HLP.VxD using the Microsoft Configuration Utility:
Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key while Windows is starting, and then choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu.
Click Start, click Run, and then type msconfig in the Open box.
On the Static VxDs tab, click to clear the Scsi1hlp.vxd check box, click OK, and then follow the instructions to restart your computer.
Method Two
loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution');
NOTE: By following the steps below, any device that uses the Scsi1hlp.vxd file may not function properly or you may not be able to restart your computer. Some SCSI devices and some ATAPI devices use this file. If you are not sure if your hardware uses this file, check with your hardware manufacturer before you proceed.
Rename the Scsi1hlp.vxd file in the Windows\System\Iosubsys folder:
Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu.
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
In the Named box, type scsi1hlp.vxd, and then click Find Now.
In the list of found files, right-click the Scsi1hlp.vxd file that is located in the Windows\System\Iosubsys folder, and then click Rename.
Type scsi1hlp.old, press ENTER, and then restart your computer.
you need to start in safe mode and remove your video drivers. Hopefully you have a win98 disk to get the drivers off of. Remove drivers and restart, it will then recognise that the drivers are gone let it ask for drivers and let it find them automatically and install them. Then see what happens
When you format something you WILL lose all of the data that was there. I would also recomend upgradeing to XP, 2000, or NT. You may need to reinstall the OS. If you need instructions ask me and I can help.
