refresh the USB ports: 1. Right click MY COMPUTER 2. Select PROPERTIES 3. Select HARDWARE 4. Select DEVICE MANAGER 5. Select UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS 6. Right click on each USB CONTROLLER and select Uninstall 7. Uninstall all entries 8. Reboot your computer 9. As your computer re-boots it will reinstall all USB connections it detects THEN, when all other USB items have been configured and connected by the system, you then should try connecting your USB device.

Go to the BIOS configuration and see it the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn,t detect the hard drive then the hard drive coulf be faulty. Another way to check the hard drive. Remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then connect this to a computer's USB port. If this computer does not detect it as and external storage device, then the hard drive is faulty. To get your laptop operational again, insertl a new hard drive and install Windows on this hard drive, together with the laptop's device drivers and your programs.

i don't know if it is not detected or detected but not installed but you can go to control panel administrative tools computer management storage disk manegement and see if there is a usb device the one says unrecognized if there is any you can set a letter to be recognized by the system just click with the right botton and set a path for the drive
