I have added a picture (done as a transparency) as my background on a calendar but when I print, the background picture does not print. How do I change this? Please help...Thanks a bunch!

You may have to adjust the transparency settings to see what the lowest limit your printer will print.
Try doing a test page with multiple images set at different levels to see which works the best.

I cannot edit my pictures.

When you first open a picture file (particularly an image file you got from the web) it might be locked. Check on the Layers palette to see if you see a padlock symbol like this:
a0f06ae.jpg

If the file is locked it is because it is in "Index color mode" and you need to change it to RGB.
On the menu bar, go to Image > Mode > RGB.

Your image will still be locked, however, now you can use the Layers palette again to make a duplicate of your image. Click, drag and drop your "Background" layer to the Create New Layer button, like this:

Now you will have two layers: Background (Locked) and Background Copy (not locked). You can drag and drop the locked layer to the trash can if you want to (you don't need it anymore).

You should now be able to edit the new Background Copy layer freely.

How would i change the background of my picture?

Basically, in Photoshop use the Magic Wand (press W to select it) to select the unneeded bckground parts and delete them or, more professionally, use the lasso tool (press L) to thoroughly select the objects, then copy them (Ctrl-C) and paste them in the other picture (Ctrl-V).

While selecting with any selection tool, use Shift to add to the existing selection and Alt to subtract from it.
