0502 comes on when i turn on printer

  • Anonymous Oct 07, 2008

I have this problem as well and when I open the lid the cartridgest usually slide to the middle and they do not do that but I can't get them unstuck. This happened last week and a couple hours later it worked, but not right now when it is really important...

I have the Error code 0502 also. I have tried turning it off, taking out the cartridges and returning them, but nothing has worked consistently. anything to do besides pray when I try to print would be greatly appreciated.

YES! 1/2 way through the page, it stops. Printer shows 'hardware error 0502' and a window comes up on the pc 'cartdrige stall'. I went to Dell support/printer and typed those messages in the search and they give a very detailed description of how to reposition the encoder strip. It may help some of you...unfortunately, not me.

Only prints to four lines of page. error 0502 comes up on screen. thanks

The 0502 error indicates either a problem with the encoder strip or a faulty black/color cartridge. Refer to this article from the Lexmark website on Error 0502 on the Lexmark X6150/X6170 Printer LCD Display to determine the cause of the problem and resolve the issue. If error continues even after following the steps, please contact Lexmark technical support for additional assistance. Thanks.

Replaced black cartridge, color fine, but keep getting notice "hardware error 0502"

Hardware Error 0502

Hello there
Ok it is.
On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a Kleenex and the problem seems to go away.
Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error
And maybe put a little bit of oil on it with a cloth not too much.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Lexmark x5150 not working

Normally when an error 0502 shows on the printer display, there is likewise a pop up window in your PC's display that shows "Cartridge Stall". This indicates that the slider rod (where the ink assembly slides along) is gummed up with residual ink. Corrective procedure would require simply cleaning the rod with paper towel or something similar. A thin coat of lubrication would be nice aper the wipe down/cleaning.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Lexmark 5150 - Error 0502

1. On your PC, go to Start, Programs (Windows XP: All Programs), Lexmark series.
2. Select the Solution Center.
3. When the Solution Center appears, click on the Maintenance button.
4. Select the option to Install a new print cartridge. The carrier should slide over at this point and allow you to insert and/or remove cartridges.
5. Make sure the correct cartridges are installed inside the printer first, then inform the software which cartridges have been installed. Note: This applies also to installation of a single cartridge.
6. Print the Print Alignment page to ensure the print quality is satisfactory.
7. Close the Solution Center.

Lexmark 5150 - Error 0502

I have had this problem "Hardware Error 0502" which kept getting worse until I could not print any more. So I open the cartridge cover & removed both good cartridges, pushed the cartridge carrier fully to the right hand side & with one slightly damp cloth, a dry cloth & a pair of latex gloves (as the ink stains your skin) I first carfully cleaned the guey head like things on the bottom inside the printer on the left hand side. I removed a load of hard & soft gue with the damp cloth then finished with the dry cloth. Next I cleaned the bottom track aswell, moved the cartriage carrier fully to the left hand side to clean the rest of the bottom track. I then re-installed both cartriages & the printer is now perfect again!
