I believe that it is the thermostat that is bad if it will not heat. It is the piece that supplys electrical heat to the heat coils. 696818 is the whirlpool part number for the thermostat on my stackable unit and it can be purchased online for 10-15 bucks.

The reason my dryer was not heating up is the thermal cutoff was bad. The part is not expensive however you need a repair man to replace it.

Hello Xcfd
Welcome to Fixya

You can also try unplugging the dryer for 5 minutes and see if the dryer resets!

Clothes are not drying satisfactorily
Try the following
Is the lint screen clogged with lint?
Is the exhaust vent or outside exhaust hood clogged with lint,
restricting air movement? Run the dryer for 5-10 minutes.
Hold your hand under the outside exhaust hood to check air
movement. If you do not feel air movement, clean exhaust
system of lint or replace exhaust vent with heavy metal or
flexible metal vent. See your Installation Instructions.
Is the exhaust vent crushed or kinked? Replace with heavy
metal or flexible metal vent. See your Installation Instructions.
Has a fuse blown, or a circuit breaker tripped? Electric dryers
use 2 household fuses or breakers. The drum may be turning
but you may not have heat.
Has an air dry cycle been selected? Select the right cycle for
the types of garments being dried. See “Drying, Cycle and
Temperature Tips.”
For gas dryers, is the valve open on the supply line?
Are fabric softener sheets blocking the grille? Use only one
fabric softener sheet and only use it once.
n Is the dryer located in a room with temperature below
45ºF (7ºC)?
Proper operation of dryer cycles requires temperatures above
45ºF (7ºC).
n Was a cold rinse water used? Was the load very wet?
Expect longer drying times with items rinsed in cold water
and with items that hold moisture (cottons).
n Is the load too large and heavy to dry quickly?
Separate the load to tumble freely.

What should we do? Our Whirlpool Thin Twin dryer doesn't get hot anymore.

You can fix it,, Here is an easy test and I can give you a definite answer on your problem and solution

open your dryer door, on the door you should see a little peg or clip sticking out which pushes into a corresponding hole in the on the front of the dryer. That's the kill switch for the dryer , it will click when you push it in, hold that in and turn your dryer on its highest setting.
Then look in your dryer while it's running , inside in the back you will see a lot of holes or slats in which the heating element pushes the heat through. You should see a slight glow and feel heat from those holes/vents, if not then I'm saying your element is out. You can normally order one through your local hardware/ appliance store using the dryers model number. For anywhere from ($20-$50)

Thin twin washer & dryer LT5000XS

The lint obstruction possibly caused the high limit thermo to fail. It is designed to prevent the machine from running if it gets too hot. It should be the one at the top of the drier stack. the one on the element needs to be checked for proper operation as well. this can be done with a multimeter. Be sure to unplug your machine before checking as there will be power at the connection points.

How can I fix my whirlpool thin twin washer?

It almost sounds like your motor is kicking out on overload. The fact that it starts agitating after the fill can rule out the pressure switch. You have installed a new timer so we should be able to rule that out. It's possible that your pump is binding, which is attached directly to your motor and causing it to overheat. To tell for sure you would have to check the motor to see if it's getting power when it cuts out. Check your terminal block where the power cord comes in to see if all connections are secure. Other possibilities could be the clutch and brake assy. With out being there too see the problem, this is where I would start.
