Ok its hard to explain so i will do my best hun and im sorry if i dont make sense but im not all that computer tech savy so i will leave you my email if you want to ask me more questions <3 thanks
a few weeks ago i wanted to watch the american phsyco movie

so i thought the movie disc was busted and chucked it

now i recently bought the warhammer online age of reckoning game
and i put disc one in my drive
and nothing
then i was liek well this is familiar
so i wait a sec because my mouse cursor is showing a little disc symbol like its trying to do something but nothign happens
so i go to "my computer" and see that the drives image is like its empty
so i try to open the drive in explorer and see
but the exploere window just freezes and closes
then all my dexktop icons and taskbar dissappear
i wait a few minutes and it comes back but the disc isnt read still
so i just removed it
i cant figure out whats wrong
i only have a few burned movies to try and they started up fine the auto play opened and everything
put the game back in and nothing.
i put the american phsyco movie (its not burned it the orginal dvd) and nothing
so after much crying and throwing of objects i still have no solution

I can burn movies as always, no problem...but not only does my AUTO PLAY no longer appear, my picure discs (RW, CD-R, etc.) can no longer be read. I insert any photo disc and a pop-up asks me what I want to do with the 'blank' disc.....it's as if nothing is on any disc. Help!

SOURCE: dvd wont read disc

I would suggest going into the control panel and uninstalling the device from there and then go to the MFG website to get the latest driver possible and reinstall reboot and see if that does the trick

if not updating the firmware would be your next option. Usually this process can fix errors such as yours. Give it a try let me know what happens

Goto HP's website to the support section download the drivers and replace your current ones. If it still does not the drive has failed and needs replacement.

No disc present

Try running a cleaner disc in the unit if that doesnt work try the following.

Starting at my computer... Right click on my computer icon.

Go to properties.

Then Hardware tab then go device manager. Right click on cdrom in device list. Select uninstall then reboot the computer. If this doesn't help replacing the unit will be necessary.

dot.gif Unable to read a CD-R or other recordable disc. Question: Unable to read a CD-R or other recordable disc.
Answer: Unfortunately this can be a difficult question to answer because of the amount of potential reasons for this issue to occur. Below is a listing of several steps and recommendations that can be taken to help identify the cause of the issue and/or resolve this issue.
Drivers Verify you have the latest drivers installed for the CD-R or recordable drive. There are numerous driver related issues that may cause a CD-R drive or other recordable to stop reading a CD-R disc. If you are running Microsoft Windows verify your drive is properly detected and listed in Device Manager with no conflicts or errors.
If Windows Device Manager detects an error on the drive or if it has other drives listed in Device Manager with errors on them remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the computer to let Windows re-initialize the drive.
If Windows shows no errors, the above steps did not resolve the issue, or you are running a different operating system check with the drive manufacturer for updated drivers. A listing of disc drivers can be found here.
CD-R disk Not all CD-R disks are compatible with all types and speeds of CD-R drives or other recordable drives (especially earlier CD-R drives). Verify the manufacturer gives 100% guarantee for supporting all drives and disc speeds, for example, TDK discs often give a 100% guarantee.
Pre-mastering/Mastering Software Pre-mastering software can sometimes produce incorrect tracks due to bugs. An incorrect ISO image could be generated, or incorrect sub header codes could be recorded in the case of Mode 2 discs. A good way to check whether the incompatibility problems lie with the originating software or with one of the other causes listed above is to test the same disc on several CD-ROM drives. If one drive is capable of reading the disc back correctly, chances are that the problem was not in the mastering, but is one or more of the other factors listed.
Disc is a recordable disc that the drive or player does not support Verify the drive supports the recordable media you are attempting to read. Below are some situations to watch out for.
  • Old CD-ROM or early DVD drive - Some early CD-ROM drives and Gen 1 DVD drives (some of the first DVD drives released) do not support CD-R discs and/or CD-RW discs. Not only does this apply to computers but also home entertainment DVD players.
  • CD-RW in CD-R or CD-ROM drive - CD-R drives are incapable of reading CD-RW drives. If you are using a CD-RW disc verify the drive is a CD-ROM or CD-R drive is capable of reading the disc.
  • DVD recordable discs - If you have a DVD recordable disc and are unable to get it to read verify that the DVD drive is not a Gen 1 DVD drive and/or that it supports reading the DVD recordable media you are using. Additionally a standard CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, etc drive is not able to read DVD discs.
Disc was created incorrectly Make sure you're creating the disc properly. For example, a common mistake users make when creating audio CD's that they can listen to in their computer, car, or home stereo is burning the MP3 files or other files directly to the CD as a Data disc and not an Audio disc. All this will do is burn the data files to the disc and not create an audio disc. This may allow you to listen to the audio files in the computer but will not allow you to listen to the music in the majority of other CD players unless they support MP3 format.
Disc or DVD contains media content not supported by the player Not all home entertainment DVD players are capable of supporting and playing all the different formats movie files and audio files are stored in. Make sure the format or codec of the movie or audio file you're saving to the CD or DVD is supported by the DVD player. If you're computer is capable of playing the files off the DVD but your home entertainment DVD player is not able to play the file it's likely you're encountering this issue.
Bad disc If after reading through the above recommendations you still continue to have the same issue it's possible that the disc is a bad disc. Try re-burning the disc and if possible try a different type of recordable disc.

Not reading dvd r or rw as writable disk

It sounds like you are having issues with all DVD writable disks. From the specs I was able to find online about your DVD writer, DVD+RW discs may not be compatible with the the drive. Make sure you are using DVD-RW (note the minus instead of +). I think you might need to reinstall your DVD drivers. This should solve the issue.

Problems with dvd reading

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY LG DVD RECORDER NOT EXCEPTING CERTAIN RECORDABLE DISCS . NO GUARANEES BUT TRY GOING TO YOUR SETUP MENU AND RE-SET THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SETTINGS FOR THE RECORDER THEN PUT A DVD CLEANER DISC IN YOUR RECORDER TAKES ABOUT TWO MINS TO CLEAN UNIT THEN TRY A BRAND THAT DOES WORK IN YOUR RECORDER OTHER THAN VERBATIM OR MAXEL . RECORD SOMETHING THEN EJECT IT . NOW TRY ONE OF YOUR MAXEL OR VIBATIM DISCS AND SEE IF IT WILL READ THIS TIME FOR RECORDING . GOOD LUCK . BEST REGARDS , blc7772001

My dvd re writer wont work

Well, when you insert a disc and go to My Computer then to the DVD drive itself, does it show that a disc is in the drive, if it does does and you open the drive does it show the contents of the drive! If so then you are having a software issue regarding the decoder! You can check out the following link: Microsoft explains DVD Playback in XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/bridgman02april15.mspx Also you can try this free codec site: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm If when you go to My computer an the disc does not come up in the drive or the drive doesn't show or anything like that you may be having problems witht the drive / configuration itself let me know how this works out regards, babb

Emerson DVD recorder EWR20V4 My DVD Recorder will not record on DVD-r or DVD-rw disc of any brand.Displays can not record on this disc. Shows E24 At the bottom of diplay.

The problem is likely that you are using 8x/2x media. Though the booklet does not say it, the burner does not support anything above 4x for DVD-R and 1x for DVD-RW. Calling their tech support can (possibly) get an update for this problem. Otherwise, the burner cannot use anything but outdated media.
