1. check if your computer sees the cd room unit.
start>my computer> and check under Devices and removable storage category... it should list your floppy drive (if avaliable) and your dvd/cd room drives.
2. insert the cd and try to double click on the icon that represent the cd room drive where you insert the cd. try a couple of times (or wait until you hear the cd spining inside the drive then try again).. look for an exectutable file, usually called "setup" or "install" and double click to run it.

you may also want to check start, right click my computer >properties>hardware>device manager and check that you're cd room drive is being detected by your computer under dvd/cd rom drives and there are no ? or ! inside a yellow globe.. if you see a ? or a !..you computer sees something but it's not properly deteting it and may not work with it.. since it's new you may not want to start operning the case and poking components.. have the computer checked by the store where you purchase it to avoid messing with your warranty.

you may also want to download the drivers from the manufacturer website and install those drivers which very like may be more updated than the ones on your cd if installing your printer is priority more than the issues you're having with the cd room drive.

I am assuming that the printer is USB so the printer will not work without the drivers installed.
Could you please list what model the printer is?

There are a couple of solutions to look at for this.

First would be to determine with drive is actually your CD ROM drive. I would try putting an normal audio CD into the drive and looking through the drives listed to see whch one says "audio CD" That would tell you which letter you need to go into to run the install CD for your printer.

The second would be not to use the CD at all and just download the newest software from the manufactures site (assuming you have an internet connection) usually you would go to the manufactures website and try to find a support or help section. Many times they then have an area where you can specify you product and what you need, you follow that and find the software and/or drivers for your model printer.

My hp 4520 probook is not picking up the cd/dvd drive, no type of cd is visible in "Computer" folder or accessible. It does not automatically pick up the cd/dvd and ask usual functions like "open with"...

no OS stated, no CD stated, but asks...
there are vast types of CD disks, not one stated by you
what is ? whats on it , what does the label say is it home made CD
non of that can we know, and is KEY to the best answer.
for autorun to work 4 things must be good.
1: the CD drive shows up in device manager, and be OK.
2: the CD must be good. what is it, not stated by you. yet.
3: the autorun feature turn on via the My computer explorer.
4: the CD must have an autorun file, many dont.

so lets forget AUTORUN, (must walk first then run, LOL)
first as always it the DRIVE must be pulled in and not bad.
2nd the Device manager must show it as must next it shows, up
in Diskmanagment and last must show up in My Computer.
or in W10 that is now called. THIS PC.
Microshaft changed this name for local explorer 4 times. for kinks.
and sux that, having to tell that.

sure seen this 1000s of times.
and all ways from sunday , you name it ive fix it,
even bad media or media from China it this pure trash.

lets say the Device manager, shows the drive.
what to do next? well that is easy
go to walfart and buy a music disk
this is called a CD-DA disk.
this disk works on all optical drives made.
if you see it in MY computer and click it , it will play.
music. as designed to do .

one other thing to do us load the Probook drivers from HP
on the PC, matching what drive you have,
mine is a DVD drive, upgraded. and can burn DVD-R.
if you have windows install disk put that in,
now.
you can see files now for the first time if the CD is a DVD
and the drive is a DVD drive, you see fails.
if the MS orHP disk is DVD and the LT only has CD drive
its hopeless.
if you have modern drive you can read most files.
even MP3., WAV music
and watch movies on DVD.
if you upgrade to BRD, blue ray drive you can run BR movies.

Older cd/dvd drives many not be able to see or run
any burned drives, the first ones could not do that.
like DVD-r or DVD+r home burned disks.

again see if a real store bought music disk works (CD-DA)
if that works good move up to more complex disks and test.
if not the DVD drive is dead, or the drivers do not match your drive.
to match any drive.
remove it and read the number on it.
it has a tag.

so you said all type but do tell if it is a store bought CD first.
for music, not a burned disk by you or others.
a disc from a store, real, music and not scratched up.

got this one? there are many types offered and used,

I have windows os and there is a autorun.inf something hidden file in my all drives.my avira antivirus has blocked that file.and i want to know that is the file safe or it is going to harm my pc.what...

Autorun.inf is the primary instruction file associated with the Autorun function. Autorun.inf itself is a simple text-based configuration file that tells the operating system which executable to start, which icon to use, and which additional menu commands to make available. In other words, autorun.inf tells Windows how to deal open the presentation and treat the contents of the CD.

That being said, it would depend on what it is trying to run automatically. If it is trying to run iTunes automatically that is one thing, but if it is running a virus automatically it would not be safe.

You can right click on the file, and edit it with notepad/wordpad to find out what program it is trying to run.

Office 2007 Pro CD appears blank? No autorun, but

I'm really not sure what to suggest as the disc is not reading in multiple computers and other discs work fine on the computer you are trying to install it on it sounds like it is bad media. You may want to contact the location you purchased it from and see if you can exchange to software.

The disk wont load

What happens if you put the disk in and run the greeting card program? Does it ask you to insert the CD?

If you have AutoRun turned off for the CD drive, nothing will happen when you put it in. And most software install disks are not bootable, usually only OS and Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware disks.

Also, if you have two CD/DVD drives, try the other one.

My wife bought a Gateway laptop, Model MT6920, in January of 2007 running Vista Home Premium. I am trying to upgrade to Windows 7. I am trying to use its CD/DVD drive to download the Windows7 upgrade,...

Try shutting down your windows firewall. Sometimes the old windows will block the new windows installation. By disabling the firewall on vista that should allow to it to install. Becareful, there is not whole alot of drivers for windows 7 for printers just like windows vista problem.

Softwear wont install im trying to add a printer

Try to copy the software disk on the Hard Disk and run the setup. If this procedure won't continue to copy the software disc then try to copy another CD/DVD Drive to make sure it run and work with your printer.
Good luck!

I have a game that wont install on my computer at all...nothing pops up like it should.

Sometimes the drives don't automatically recognize cd's (assuming your using CD). Usually remembers last command which can vary from setup.exe, autorun etc. so if a new CD is inserted with diff. program launch, it can go dumb. You can go to "My computer" and double click on your CD drive (with the game cd inserted) and look for setup.exe or install.exe or autorun. Double-click on one of those files to launch the installer.

You can try this: Put the disk in the drive, then go to My Computer and find the drive the dvd is in. It will most likely be something like "CD Drive (E:)" or along those lines. Then go to the Start menu, and click Run. In the case of this example, you would type E:, and click OK, which should run the disk. This is assuming you are running Windows.

Cd rom has stopped working. the light is flashing as if it is working but the cd is not spinning.

Check the disk for scratches, and try other disks to make sure the problem is not unique to that one disk. If all disks fail, then double-click on My Computer, then double click on the CD-Rom drive and see if a CD will run. The "autorun" option may have been disabled, which is very noticeable if you've been used to this feature working. To re-enable autorun, right click on the cd-rom drive in My Computer, and go to device properties - recheck the autorun or autoplay option.

If none of the above resolve, then turn off your computer. Open up your computer with screwdriver. Unplug and replug the cd-rom driver. Restart computer. Test cd-rom drive again.

If it still fails, Make sure you are connected to the internet (I am assuming Windows XP - Vista may vary): Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Printers & Other Hardware --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> DVD/CD Rom Drives - se if the drive has a yellow exclamation by it - if it does, then right click on the yellow exclamation, and click install drivers - windows will most likely find a solution

If all of the above fails, write back with more details, including model/manufatcurer of cd-rom drive, and model/manufatcurer of computer.
