Look in the router documentation.. you, should be able to change the IP address to access your router, just to start..
dependent how good your router is you should also be able to set up a password to access the configuration page... ... bottom line.. look for your router documentation

I have a Belkin G Wireless Router and all of a sudden the wireless internet has stopped working. i have restored default settings to the router. the internet for the computer is working through the router...

Probably you have to turn on the wirelss portion. Go to Belkin and download a manual for the exact steps.

You need to navigate your web browser to the router, log in and make changes. I have included the highlights that need to be set, below.

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

HOW DO I SET UP NETGEAR WIRELESS G-ROUTER FOR MY COMPAQ PRESARIO NOTEBOOK PC. I HAVE NORTON ANTI-VIRUS INSTALLED ON MY HP PAVILION. HOW DO I GET IT TO INSTALL ON MY NOTEBOOK PC?

To set up the router, you connect directly to the router with a network cable, log into the router using your Internet browser, to a code like 192.168.0.1, or similar. I suggest that you use the wizard, but be sure to change: Wireless security of WEP and access code of your 10 digit home or cell phone#, change system ID to something you recognize, change router access password AND RECORD IT, change wireless channel to 11 and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones.

With routers, you have to SAVE on each page or loose settings.

Then install the router, and look for it in the wireless connections list on your laptop. Give the access password and you should be good to go. The desktop usually connects via network cable.

How do I install a wireless router

Connect it to your modem. Locate the IP address for the router. It should either be on the bottom of the router or in your manual

Open your browser and enter that IP address into the address bar. You will also need to locate the default user-name and password, should be with the IP address. Enter that information when prompted.

Locate the wireless settings in your router admin area, enable wireless output, set security settings (remember to write them down) and connect your computer to your wireless network.

Need to secure my wireless router. do not know how?

Go to your wireless router software and click on the security setting section. Create a WEP key by providing a secret code or password that restricts access to the network. (to get access type http://192.168.0.1) Step2Be sure to choose a key with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. These types of codes are the most difficult to break. Step3Click on the wireless connections options on your wireless router software. Find your router from the list of found servers and click on security settings. Step4Add the WEP key that you used on the main router settings to the wireless device. A lock symbol should now appear next to the name of your wireless router from the list of available routers. Step5Access the Internet via your router using only devices that have the WEP installed in their wireless settings. Without it, they will not be able to complete the connections to the network. This information must be added to all wireless devices that you plan to access via the router.

I cannot get internet connection on my wireless computer

Biggest problem I've seen here is that users will install a WEP security code when they install their router. Years later when they install their new laptop they've forgotten about that code and can't understand why their laptop won't connect. Go through the installation instructions for your router and you'll either see the code or be able to reinstall the code. Then put the code into your laptop.

My security password (key) doesn`t work cause there is only room for 16 digits and I have 20

that means that the security level is wpa-psk on the router, but your pc only supports wep, you need to change to wep security in the router settings for this 16 digit pass code

I am unable to connect other computer to the internet. Their system is asking for a code key. They entered the following number4200001053000, this is the number on the back of the unit

no this is not a code, thats possibly a serial number, the key code (a mixture of letters and numbers) will be the security code that your routers wireless connection is asking for, this will either be on the router or visible in the routers security settings, for which you need to see the routers settings menu

I need to find out how to secure my router

The best way in my opinion is to put your router behind a linux firewall, such as smoothwall. Any old computer with two network interface cards will work.
A guide to install smoothwall can be found here: http://linux-noob.com/review/smoothwall/express/3/

Forgot the password/code/security to let somebody else onto my linksys home wireless network. Don't remember how to do any of it or retrieve the security code to access the secure wireless network

Hi,

The easiest would be to reset the router using the small recessed button at the back of the unit. Performing a full hard reset (pressing reset more than 10 seconds) would clear the password. Of course, this action would also clear all other configurations and settings reverting the unit back to factory default.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I just installed a Wireless router and the security type is WPA I need to change it to WEP How do I get in to change it? I went into http://www.routerlogin.com like it said I could do to change any of...

If you reinstall the router using the CD it came with, the install program will recognise that the router is already installed. But, when you come to the security part of the install, everything is new. You can then change it to WEP if you want. Why would you want to? It's fairly easy to crack into.
