Question about Olympus Digital Cameras

5 Answers

I have just bought a Olympus E420 also at the time I bought a Olympus 2gb type m high speed XD picture card, a slip of paper with the card instructs me to enter a 20 didgit number; What I want to know, Where do I enter this number and how? The camera manual(page 113) is`nt much help as it only refers to non-Olympus cards. I have the Olympus Master software in my computer.

I dont think its a licence number!
The slip of paper reads as follow, this will I hope make things clearer.
(Guide) To activate the ART and 3D functions for the 1st time in Olympus Master software you will need to enter this serial number ********************. Again, where and how is my question; I can`t find anything listing in the software that asks for an XD card serial number.

    Answear from coolguy looks good.
Now, where in the software is that serial number page. You can tell I know VERY little about computers so be gentle with me.

  • johnminik Sep 21, 2008

    Bestdarngood.

I thought I`d made it clear in my second response, it tells me to activate the card I have to enter the SERIAL NUMBER!!

  • johnminik Sep 23, 2008

Coolguy Got the answear half right, showed me there really was a page, but, not the link..

I contacted Olympus Europe as he suggested and came up with a responce which was a link as follows-- olympus-europa.com/comsumer/Software/743/XD202Setup.exe (copy as writen with all Caps) This will get you the download page, don`t go for the uniblue or system tweaker ****, you don`t need it. I hope this will help others with this problem. I just can not figure out "WHY" this info is not included in the XD card package or in the Olypmpus manual or even in the master 2 software.

    Thanks, I have the answear to my Olypus XD card problem. Goodguy pointed me in the right direction;

I emailed Olympus Europe and within 24hrs they provided me with the download address to enter my XD cards ""SERIAL NUMBER"". if anyone has the same problem here is the address.

    olympus-europa.com/consumer/Software/743/XD202Setup.exe

It seems this number allows the Olympus master software to proccess the high speed of the card without which it can`t.

This set of numbers are for the software that you can use. as for using the picture card, just pop it in your camera and you should be good to go.

What is the name that they give to the number? product key, registration, etc.?

Unless it asks you specifically for the number, everything should work right away, but if it doesn't, let me know

The no might be the software license for the camera.

you dont need to enter the No# into the camera. just insert the memory card into the camera and it is ready to use.

Yes, you can use the XD M+2GB card in your camera. The M+ card is a faster one. The following website gives you more on it.
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_xd.asp

"The Type M+ xD-Picture card is compatible with the Type M card in all cameras and is 1.5 times faster than the Type M card. The increase in speed may be useful in sequential shooting of digital stills and in the recording of high-density video with Olympus cameras."

Good luck.

It's possible that your camera, being 7 years old, was never designed for a 2gb card. You can find cards of all sizes at amazon.com

Problem with olympus digital camera d-395

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is a 512mb card without the letter M or H in front of the 2gb. The 1gb or 2gb cards are not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there are no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.

Cant get anything when i installed the memory card for my olympus

If this is a C-700 camera the only memory card that can be used in that camera is a Smartmedia card from 16mb to 128mb. An xD card is not even supported by that camera at all.

XD memory card confusion

The xD-Picture Card (xD stands for "extreme digital.") is a flash memory card format developed and introduced to the market in July 2002 by Olympus and Fujifilm, and manufactured by the Toshiba Corporation. xD cards are in Olympus and Fujifilm digital cameras, and are available in a range of sizes, from 16 MB to 2 GB currently. A higher-performance xD card known as Type M came out in 2005, and uses Multi Level Cell (MLC) architecture.
An xD card is 20mm x 25mm x 1.78mm and weighs about 2.8 g, making it significantly smaller than the nearly matchbook-sized CF card and about half the size of the SD/MMC card. As far as size goes, it is much closer to miniSD or RS-MMC. The manufacturer listed write speeds for xD-Picture Cards are: for the 16 MB and 32 MB card, 1.3 MB/s and for the 64MB and higher cards, 3 MB/s. Both offer a minimum read speed of 5 MB/s. The xD Type M cards have a faster standard rate of 4.0MB/s for reading and 2.5MB/s for writing.
Anything up to 2gb will work with your camera, either the type M or the type M+ will be fine.
