First and foremost, anyone who has not cleaned one of these before, don't. It's a specialist job.

The screen must be removed to clean it. This is best done in an ultrasonic bath, exactly what cleaning agents to use depends on what the smudge is, but do not use solvents. The screen may be made from pastic, and solvents will ruin it. When clean the screen must be rinsed with distilled water and air dried.

To remove it the camera must be opened-up and the prism removed. To see how this may be done look at this Pentax camera repair website.

What kind of camera? Some camera's have removable fresnel lens held on by a spring loaded frame. Other camera's must be disassembled to replace the lens. There is no way to repair a damaged fresnel lens.
Pentax K1000 must be disassembled.

SOURCE: Fresnal lense

Hi-- first blow off any loose dust/dirt with blower and then you can use any rapidly evaporating cleaning solution ( window cleaning solution with amonia is OK ) to clean both sides. Do not use acetone ! ( will attack plastic ) . Benzine is also unsutable . Do not touch with fingers : remove with tweeezers and insert back with tweezers.

My pictures all come out with a smudge depending on the focus is howm noticeable it comes out on the image

This is almost certainly due to dirt on your lens or mirror - possibly your sensor. If you have two interchangable lenses try them both and see if there is a difference. If no difference the mirror or sensor is probably dirty. In either case, I would suggest you have them cleaned professionally unless you are confident about working inside your camera. If there is no smudge with one lens then the other lens must be dirty. Clean both ends carefully with soft, lint free cloth.

When I switch on the camera the LCD screen shows a smudged image at whatever it is pointing at, please advise?

Do you have it set for closeups? Mine has one and it's placement made it easy to hit by accident just pulling it out of the case,

So I shoot all the beautiful pictures, including mule deer, in the wenatchee state forest in the mountain range onyl to find out, when I got home and saw them on a larger screen they appeared blurry and smudged.

How far is the image from you? Try a closeup on a flower, if it clears up you know it's switched.

Otherwise clean the lense with a lens kit.

Smudge mark 2-in wide down right side of each sheet of paper.

Generally speaking, any area that is darkened, is receiving less light. This can come from a lamp that is failing (similar to a fluorescent lamp used for lighting developing a dark end) or a mirror or optical lense that is contaminated with toner.
This may require some disassembly to diagnose and cure.
You may also want to visually check the fuser assembly (often accessible behind a door) to ensure there is no toner buildup on the affected side.

Smudge on pictures

Yes, if you have used different lenses and a smudge still appears (in the same place) there may be something on your sensor. Have you cleaned or touched the sensor in the past? Typically sensors only get dust (shows up as small fuzzy dark spots) on the sensor, not smudges.
