Fan remote operates fan, won't operate light

My hampton bay mediterranean ceiling fan has worked for two years without issue. today, i accidentally bumped it and blew out one of the four light bulbs in the canopy. now the remote will operate the fan, but it will not operate the light (the light comes on when the wall switch is on). the led light on the remote illuminates when any of the buttons on the remote are pushed. what the heck?

Thanks for the reply, David! Unfortunately, I am holding the button and continue to get no reponse to the remote. Additionally, the bulbs in there are the originals. They work when I turn the fan on via the wall switch. Any other ideas?? This stinks!

It sounds like you shorted the lights control portion of the receiving unit on the remote in the canopy out when the light blew. You may have to replace it. They aren't all that complicated (unless it's a built in remote, rare with Hampton Bay fans, in which case you'd just have to replace the fan.)

If you press and hold the light button, it will step up in brightness to max then back down to dark. Then when you press the button briefly it will turn off and then press button briefly again it will turn on at the intensity you had it at last. So if you are one tick from off you may not notice it is "on" because it is dark. A second possibility is that you replaced the bulbs with a compact flourescent and they are not always happy with adjustable brightness, often they will be on or off, no middle ground. I recommend sticking with old school bulbs in the fan.

Need to program Hampton Bay Ceiling fan remote control CHO88T7030T, HELP!

Change the battery. This is the first step when troubleshooting a ceiling fan remote. The easiest fix to any remote control problem begins with battery replacement. A 9-volt battery is needed to operate all Hampton Bay ceiling fan remotes.

Check the light switch used for the ceiling fan. The light switch found on the wall must be in the "on" position. This allows the ceiling fan to be operated by remote control

Re-program your remote. If battery replacement fails to get your remote working again, try to reprogram the remote. Open the battery cover you will see 4 dip switches. These switches must be set to the same position as the receiver on the fan. Use the screw driver to move the dip switches either up or down.

Follow the previous step to change the frequency if the ceiling fan is randomly turning on or off. Other electronic devices such as garage door openers can interfere with the ceiling fans receiver, causing it to randomly turn on or off.

Lights flicker when turned off by remote

I had this same problem with a Hampton Bay fan with a remote light switch. I call the manufacturer of the of the switch and was told that the model switch I had would not work correctly with CFL bulbs. The problem is with the dimmer function. You either need to change the bulbs to incandescent, or change the remote receiver in the ceiling. Hampton Bay was kind enough to send me a new receiver that works with CFL. The CFL units are white, and the incandescent is black. Hope this helps you.
