After hello unit displays Please Wait continuously. How do I fix this please?

I just had this problem the other day. Unplug the unit for 2 minutes. When you plug it back in and get a the 000 press the power button for about 5 seconds and that will put it back in stand by mode. Then see if you can turn it on.

Player will not eject disc. Tried power cycling and unplugging and waiting to reset system.

You didn't say whether the unit was powering on or not. If there are numbers in the display but the unit will not eject the disc, try holding down the STOP button on the remote for 5 or 10 seconds. This will sometimes act as an EJECT command.
If the display does not come on when you plug it in and try to turn it on, the player has probably died. The only way you can get at the disc is to extract it by opening the Magnavox case. Sometimes you can just slide the disc out of the carrier, but usually you will have to look for an exposed gear and use a screwdriver to manually turn it. Push the gear clockwise, and it should lower itself and unlock the tray, which will then start to slide out. Don't force it. If it will not budge, try counter clockwise, or look for a different gear.

I have the Panasonic DMR EZ28K and while in stand by mode and even while playing a DVD, the display will show U99. When this happens, the unit will not turn on to record whatever I have programmed. To...

You can probably fix this issue by updating the firmware and doing a system reset. First, download the latest firmware and burn it to a CD. You can download it from here: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.DMR-EZ28K.D#ts

Now, power the unit down, press Skip/Rev + Time Slip + Open/Close for 5 seconds. The CDR should be in the disc drive as you do this. This will install the new firmware and re-initialize the system settings.

The complete manual is here: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMREZ28-MUL.pdf

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa! We would sure appreciate a 4 "thumbs-up" rating for this answer. Happy holidays!

DVR-720 power off

I have a solution to power it on again quickly. Unplug the power cable, short out the pins in the power socket in the back of the machine ( NOT THE POWER CABLE ) and plug the power cable back in - it should go into standby mode immediately. I think the problem is caused by a capacitor on the power supply board going faulty with age. I have not had time to open the machine to check yet, but I will do so soon.

U61 error problem

The manual refers to the U61 as being a recovery mode. Have you left it at U61 for a period of time while it tries to recover?
U61 ≥There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit is
carrying out its recovery process. This process restores the unit to normal operation. The unit is not
broken. Wait until the message disappears.
You could always try to force it into standby mode and back out again:
Press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit to switch the unit to standby.
Now press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit again to turn the unit on.
If that doesn't take care of it, everything thing I've found points toward a replacement of components inside the system by a repair service. Hopefully you are still under warranty!

When i try to open my disk tray it says locked

I had same problem with JVC player. Found out from manual that there is child lock- activated by pressing stop + eject when unit in stand-by mode. (which I must have done accidentally) Unlocked by repeating action - in stand by mode.

My sony hd dvd recorder RDR-HXD 760 wont turn on or off, it just sits half way and says welcome, have tried holding on/off button down which does work for a bit the it comes back on by itself and goes back...

I had the same problem, my recorder was past it's warranty though. So I opened the case (4 screws on sides & 3 [silver] screws on rear) then unsecured the HDD (4 screws with rubber grommets and 1 screw with thin metal flange) I then disconnected the data and power cable (as illustrated on HDD) powered the whole unit up and got nothing (obviously) reconnected the HDD and plugged the unit in. It powered up and then turned itself off. I then turned it on using the power button and voila, it worked perfectly! All HDD stored videos were still there too! The unit even held the same time.

Start up u99 message

Hi there, this is what Panasonic say.... The "U99" error code signifies a "general communications failure."
It is not associated with one specific problem.
It can be related to the version of firmware your DVD recorder is currently using and it has been associated with the TV Guide on screen guide.

If your unit displays U99, turn the power off-unplug the
unit for 5 minutes, and reconnect the power.

If U99 reoccurs, please contact the Global Service Center Network for assistance.

Unit turns itself on in standby mode

This can be a very irritating problem. Happened to me too. The only thing to do is after you turn off the unit with the remote, go to the unit and physically turn off the power to the unit with the manual Power on/off switch on the left side of the unit. Nothing else works.
