Question about Fisher Price Power Wheels Kawasaki KFX Ninja Ride-On Toy

1 Answer

Kawasaki Ninja 4-Wheel

A loud audible clicking or slipping of gears sound coming from back of the power wheel, if clicking continues for 5 or more times, vehicle does not go forward. Clicking seems to cease when operated in reverse. Any suggestions as to problem? If can be fixed, where to find parts?

Thank you so much...information/instructions are very clear. Can you add any information about replacing and lubricating the gear(s)? How many gears or drive clutch(es)? Can I replace only the gears or do I have to replace the motor/gear assemblies?

Thanks grandson is patiently waiting me to fix his power wheels.

I have taken a lot of these power wheels apart, there are nylon gears that when the vehicle is powered forward and cannot move the teeth on the plastic gears will wear down and slip.

Here is an ebay site.
To replace the gearbox you will need to take off the axle cap and shaft washer that holds the wheel on.
Slide off the wheel.
I think this power wheel has a silver plastic housing that covers the gearboxes and axle, which means that there will be an amount of screws to take out before you can get to the guts.
Once you get to the wires on the motor you will need to cut and strip them and install the replacement
If you can, I would prefer you would crimp the wires together with a blue or Yellow **** splice, but if you do not have crimper or lugs You can use wire nuts large enough to firmly connect both wires. Then electrical tape the nuts and wires to prevent loosening by vibration. Even though these are 6 volt batteries their current is enough for wires not connected well to overheat, melt and could possibly become a fire hazard.
Ideally the wires from the replacement would be the same color as the original but if not you will want to test to see if while in forward it does go forward. If not you need to reverse the two wires. This is a headache saving measure.
Re-assemble everything making sure that the axle nut or cap goes back on Tightly to prevent the wheel from falling off during use.

Replacing the gearbox and motor is a lot less messy and probably easier.

Do you hear a click when it stops working? if you do its the thermal switch tripping, this would probably indicate a bad motor, lift up the rear end of the vehicle and check to make sure that both wheels are spinning in all of the gears

hi are you talking about a power wheels or peg perego vehicle? for both there is usually a plastic piece that you pry off. the peg (gator, etc.) has nuts that hold on the wheels, simple. the older power wheels are more trouble, you have to squeeze the locking nut a couple directions and pull it off, it cant be put back on. lowes sells axle caps in the hardware section, take the bent one and get the one that fits. newer power wheels are sometimes threaded nuts that are easy off and on.
good luck!

Little tikes princess battery power wheels

I would replace the gearbox, but it is a specific little tikes gearbox. If it is making a grinding noise, then the gears have broke.
You can find them at this website I would just let them know what model it is and you should be good to go.

Won't back up. just stops, no grinding noise . second jeep sounds to be slipping gears in high and low, forward and reverse. Help

May be rusted!
I'd buy a can or two of WD 40 or similiar lubricant and spray it all over all the rusted metal I can get to then turn the wheels by hand as much as possible but that's just me!
Good Luck!
