Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have an HP Pavilion dv2000, it has always worked fine until around April 2008 it started making this whirring noise. It is on and off. Recently I removed the bad battery (went almost dead in about 30 minutes) and it stopped for a while, but tonight it started again. I believe it is the cooling fan.

If it shuts down on it's one.. very like may be the cooling fan on top o fthe processor causing it to overheat... you may want to have that serviced by trained technitians as working on inside a laptop cd and replacing a fan is more critical than replacing a hdd, battery or upgrading/installing memory on your laptop.

Hp pavilion a1330n fan runs, nothing else happens

A lot of HP Pavilion laptops suffered from improperly installed VGA chips on the motherboard which did not have properly thermal control. Overtime the chip will partially or entirely lose contact from the motherboard and you will experience this symptom.

This started with early 2007ish Pavilion DV2000, 6000, and 9000 series laptops, but has been an ongoing issue in several models since. A repair is possible, but NOT by baking your motherboard or using a thermal heatgun.

You need to take it to a lab with an infrared REFLOW machine to properly REFLOW the solder from the VGA chip to the motherboard. Going rates are from $75 to $150 flat for the job.

Good luck

My computer makes a highish pitched whirring noise every time it has to do something slightly difficult, typically a video or interactive things. What is it and can I fix it?

Yes, open the side cover and determine where the noise is coming from - Harddrive, fans, DVD/CD player, etc.. If it's the harddrive, start backing up your important data asap before it goes out completely. If it's a fan, power down the computer and clean the fan. If it's t DVD/CD drive, replace the drive.

I have a HP Pavilion 700 Desktop and I started a full scan with Norton and the computer was on for aday and ahalf so I turned it off and now the tower is making a beeping noise and the monitor is blank....

If it is making this noise when it is powering on and fails to get to the BIOS screen where all the white text flies up-- the PC suffered a hardware issue.

Power it off and leave it powered off for eight hours. Power it back on. If it powers on without the beeps, it was a heat related issue and will eventually crash again until that is addressed.

Loud fan noise

hmm, it's very possible that the new fan is unable to spin fast enough to draw enough heat away fast enough. I'm guessing that this a separate video card and not the onboard video of the motherboard? and, is it the video card fan that is making all the noise?
