Question about Fuji FinePix S5000 Digital Camera
I have a Fuji FinePix S5000 that I bought new in 2003 and it has been a wonderful camera. I went to take some pictures today and when I turned the Power Switch to the Photography mode and it was in Playback mode. I move the Power Switch to Playback mode and it was in Playback mode.
I have taken the batteries out and replaced. I have taken the memory card out and replaced. Still stays in Playback mode no matter which location the knob is moved to, nor does the shutter button work in any position.
When I turn the Power Switch to Photography mode after taking the batteries out, the time and date should come up, but it doesn't, it just goes to Playback mode.
The photos that were on the card were not affected, but I can't take any new ones.
Please help as I love this camera and hope that it is something simple.

This appears to be loose connector to the motherboatd from the screen.
Try gentle squeezing of the casing near the bottom of the body
This may do the trick- otheriwise it is a workshop job and frankly not worth the cost - the money would be better spent on a more uptodate camera.

Your CCD sensor has failed. Common digital problem that uses Sony sourced CCD chips. Proffesional factory replacement of CCD is only fix or buy another physicaly damaged unit and swap CCD boards. Not hard but intricate and time consuming.

Sounds like the CCD (main image sensor) is dead. It should be covered under warranty. It doesn't sound like there is anything you've done, or can do to rectify it. Get it in to a Fuji service center with your warranty/receipts.
