I have found restarting the print services helps but it is just a work around HP has to correct it's firm wear. This happens way to much for the customers I support.

Dear
Pl. detach the paper try and see bellow the printer base a small plastic lever is there, push that lever upward, if printer goes ready, check the floor of the printer and tray else some mechanical adjustment is required or put a bunch of paper.

I have a Brother HL-5240, status light red, paper light flashing. Plenty of paper in the tray


Ether the paper sensing lever is broken or there is dust accumulation or paper fragments inside the optical sensor.

HP1005 says out of paper but there is plenty. One


In run window type services.msc and the go to print spooler option just stop and restart the service.and switch off and switch on the printer it will clear the queue.
