I have no sound coming from laptop.....volume turned up....computer says device working properly

Try going into your control panel and go through the Sound and Audio device icon. Once here you will look for the tab "Audio", click on that. The first section displays playback audio click on the volume button, and from here make sure, that none of the controls listed here are muted. Also make sure that all the volume controls are set up as high as possible. See if that helps....

Sound card broke


Check hardware Many sound problems are caused by hardware that isn't set up properly. This step covers checking your sound card, plugging cables into the correct locations, making sure the hardware has power, and checking the volume.
1. Check your sound card Check to make sure your computer has a sound card, or sound processor, and it's working properly.

    • Laptops don't usually have sound cards. Instead, they have integrated sound processors, which appear in the same category in Device Manager.
If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card in Device Manager, there might be a problem.
  1. Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.
    If there's a problem, you might need a new driver for your sound card. For more information, see Step 3: Update drivers.

Make sure that your speaker volume or headphone volume isn't muted or turned down too low. This is particularly important for laptops, which often have small speakers that can be hard to hear.

In some cases you might have several volume controls to check. For example, if you're using Windows Media Player it has its own volume control, Windows has a volume control, and your external speakers have their own volume control. If any of these volume controls are set to their lowest setting, you won't hear any sound.
Update drivers For Windows to recognize your sound card or sound processor, it needs a compatible and properly working driver. An outdated, incompatible, or damaged driver can disrupt communication between the PC and the sound card.
If you recently upgraded from one version of Windows to another, it's possible that the current sound card driver was designed for the previous version of Windows. If you've had recent power outages, viruses, or other computer problems, it's possible that the drivers have become damaged. Downloading and installing the latest sound card driver for your sound card can help resolve these types of problems.
Here are three ways to install a driver:
  • Use Windows Update. You might need to set Windows Update to automatically download and install recommended updates. Installing any important, recommended, and optional updates can update system features and other software that might help fix your sound problems.
  • Install software from the device manufacturer. If your device came with a disc, that disc might contain software that installs a driver for the device.
  • Download and install the driver yourself. You can search for a driver on the manufacturer's website. Try this if Windows Update can't find a driver for your device and the device didn't come with software that installs a driver.
For more information about updating your sound card driver, follow these steps. For information about devices that are compatible with Windows, go to the Windows Compatibility Center.

To update the driver using Windows Update

  2. Click Check for updates.

To download and install a driver yourself

To locate the driver, find the manufacturer and model name or number of your sound card, and then visit the Hardware and software vendor contact information website. Once you find your manufacturer, go to its website and locate and download the latest driver for your sound card.
If there's an updated driver, follow the installation instructions on the website. Most drivers are self-installing-after you download them, you usually double-click the file to begin the installation, and then the driver installs itself on your computer.
Some devices have drivers that aren't self-installing. If you download a driver that isn't self-installing, follow these steps.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

To connect a music player or other audio device to your laptop


<br />If your laptop has a line-in jack, follow the instructions above for connecting a music player to a desktop computer. But to connect a music player or other audio device to most laptops, you'll have to plug it into a microphone jack. I have no sound and i can not see the volume control


It's a possible problem with the driver or the sound card may be disabled. To check if the sound card is disabled or drivers not installed,
1. Right click on "My Computer" select "Properties"

3. From the list, you should see a "Sound Controller" and if you click on the drop down arrow beside it, you should see the audio driver installed(ex. High Definition Audio Device... audio driver name may vary depending on the brand of the laptop).

4. Right click on the sample "High Definition Audio Device" then select Properties. If it says device is working properly then there shouldn't be any problem with your audio.

** If the Sound Controller is NOT installed properly you need to download the Audio drivers from the support site of your Dell computer, http://support.dell.com , be sure to select the correct model of your laptop and operating system of your computer. Once you have downloaded and installed the drivers, Audio should work fine not unless it is the hardware itself that is damaged.
**Also don't forget to check if there are other external audio output devices connected to your computer, please do test if working properly.

Sound voice is not coming


irst right click my computer clickproperties then click hardware then device manager and in the click sound vedio and came controller and see wether the driver is installed properly if you see question mark in the driver or the driver not installed properly reload your sound driver which came with the motherboard if the drivers are installed properly then click start settings control pannel then click sound and audio device then click volume and move the slider to high then untick the mute button if ticked then restart the computer

Here are some things to check:

  • If you have external speakers, make sure that they're plugged into a working power source and that they're turned on.

  • Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to the computer.

    On your speakers, make sure that the cable that plugs into your computer is plugged into both the speakers and the correct jack on your computer (the jack that goes to your sound card). Most sound cards have at least three jacks. Plug the speaker cable into the line-out jack. This jack often has a symbol showing an arrow pointing away from the jack. If the jacks aren't labeled, check the information that came with your computer to see what each jack does.

  • Make sure the speaker volume isn't turned down too low or muted. This is particularly important for laptops, which often have small speakers that can be hard to hear.

    2. Move the slider up to increase the volume.

    You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
    To make sure that your computer has a sound card

    To make sure that your sound card is working properly

      If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card, there might be a problem.

If these actions don't solve the problem, there might be a problem with the hardware for your sound card, although in most cases sound problems are caused by missing or out-of-date drivers, or a problem with your speakers. If you suspect you have a hardware problem, contact the manufacturer of your computer or sound card.

Now volume will come on at all no matter what I do


There are several things to check. First if you have an external volume control make sure it is plugged in and turned on and up. Another place to check would be the Sounds and Audio Device properties in the control panel. Open it up and you should see five tabs which all have to do with the sound on your computer. Step through each of them and ensure all of your sound devices are working properly and not muted or disabled. Another place to check would be Hardware Device Manager. Click on start and right click on the My Computer icon. Select Properties and then select the Hardware tab. Click on Device Manager and a window will show all hardware associated with the computer. IF a red X or yellow exclaimation point is visible then there is an issue with a driver most likely. The easiest fix is to roll back the driver and if this doesn't work then update the driver. Other than that if they are external speakers make sure the jacks are plugged in and the external power supply is working. Hope this helps

No sound my system


If there is no sound coming from your computer try these "simple" but common solutions first.

1. Make sure the power cord is plugged into an outlet and the speakers are turned on.
*Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to the computer.
*Make sure that the speaker cable is plugged into the speakers and the correct jack on the computer.
2. Make sure your computer has a sound card and that it is enabled and working properly:
To open Device Manger...
*Start
*Control Panel
*System and Maintenance
*Device Manager
*Expand the Sound, video and game controllers category.
If a sound card is listed, you have one installed.
*Check the status of the driver and update if necessary.
3. Make sure that the speaker volume is not muted or turned down too low.
To open Volume Control...
*Click the Start button ,
*Click Control Panel
*Click Hardware and Sound
*Under Audio Devices and Sound, click Adjust system volume.
*Under Main Volume, move the slider up or down to raise or lower the volume.
If you still have no sound after checking the solutions above, you more than likely have a bad sound card.

Installed USB microphone, but NO sound.


select the device from control panel /sound and audio device / audio .../sound recording ...

if it doesnt work ...look for the device ( microphone ) on volume panel ( double click the speaker from the system tray ) if you do not see a volume for mic...click options..and check the microphone from there ...after that look out and be sure it s not muted...it has to work if it is proper installed..
