Network Dropping Signal. Netgear WGT624v3 Router

I have used this router for awhile. I moved to a place with a 900 mhz pc running xp. I configured the connection with it and used the wifi to connect the laptop. Now I have a connection that sometimes can be found and other times not. I went back and redid it with the laptop and just began to have the same problem. I switched the mac fro default, pc and router each time and still get problem. Now when I can connect the laptop it gives me a gateway and shows the router. I can't figure this out to save my life.

I have a NetGear WNR834M that keeps dropping the signal. Connecting PC directly to the modem I have no problems maintaining signal.0

I too experience a similar issue with the wireless connection dropping. My wireless devices are within a 20-30 foot distance from the router and all of the devices loose conectivity so I know it's not just a specific device.

My WNR834M is running version 1.4.23NA. The logs file doesn't show anything except for one timestamp the last time it was reinitialized (a forced reboot).

The router's WiFi Channel is set for AUTO and is currectly using Channel 1 (found under Maintenance

I'm having a problem with my NETGEAR WGT624v3 router. I have it connected through a SPEEDSTREAM 4200 modem and have experienced no problem with the internet connection. However, after approx. 3 to 4 hours...

yes set the speedstream modem to log in. it is uner advanced, usually 192.168.0.1 address. It is most likely set to "bridged" mode and using the router to login. set login to ppoe on speedstream on one p.c. only 1st. with login ang password filled in and "smart keep alive" on.

I have a wgt624v3 how do i reset ip address?

You want to enter 192.168.1.1 into your web browser and enter the router configuration. There should be a release IP address selection. Then select IP renew button. The logon info should be User-ADMIN, Password-PASSWORD.

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before

Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help.

you can also check the settings of your wifi security. I would suggest you use WEP or WPA-TKIP (personal). You can also try considering this options below;

Getting an intermittent wireless connection can be attributed to the following factors:

a. 2.4 GHz wireless interference
b. Wireless settings of your router
c. Location of the devices
d. Obstacles

You may also refer to the common causes of interference:

Window in brick wall 2dB
Metal frame, glass wall into building 6dB
Office wall 6dB
Metal door in office wall 6dB
Cinder wall 4dB
Metal door in brick wall 12.4dB
Brick wall next to metal door 3dB

In order for us to isolate the problem, please refer to the steps below:

1. Avoid obstacles.

a. Try to move the router to different locations in order to get better connectivity. We suggest placing the router on high location to avoid obstacles that may be blocking the signal.

2. Reduce wireless interference in the area.

a. Try to move the router away from devices that are operating on 2.4 GHz frequency like your cordless phones and microwave ovens.
b. Try to move the router away from windows. Windows let in interference from the outside world.

3. Adjust the wireless settings on the router.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. For security reasons, the router has its own username and password. When prompted, enter admin for the Username and password for the Password, both in lower case letters.

Note: If it doesn't take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you can't remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

d. Click on Wireless Settings under Setup tab.
e. Change the Network name or SSID to your preference.
f. Change the Mode to g and b only.
g. Change the Channel to 11, 1, 6 or 9.
h. Click on the Apply button.
i. Reconnect your computer to the wireless network and see if it fixes the problem.

Note: If the problem persists, you may need to upgrade the firmware of the router.

4. Upgrade the firmware.

a. Please verify the router version and model either underneath or at its side panel.
b. Go to http://kbserver.NETGEAR.com/downloads_support.asp and please select the model of the router.
c. Click the appropriate version of the router.
d. Select the link of the latest firmware. Click the button Right-click and Save to Download. Save the file to the Desktop.

Note: Please perform firmware upgrade with wired or Ethernet connection only. If your computer has wireless connection, then please disable it first.

e. Before upgrading, please write down all current settings since you need to enter them manually.
f. Using the computer hardwired on the router, please access the router’s setup page again by going to http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm
g. Click on Maintenance and then Router Upgrade.
h. Click on Browse and locate the upgraded file in your Desktop. Then click on Upload.
i. Please wait for the router to reboot.

5. After a successful firmware upgrade, you need to reset the router.

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

Note: Resetting the router will erase all the settings so it needs to be reconfigured afterwards.

The router can be reconfigured using the setup CD or by manual configuration.

Connecting two laptops using Netgear 834G

If its just a router and not a modem router, go into the routers settings and make sure DHCP is enabled to give each pc an automatic IP address and ensure wireless is enabled if using wireless adapters. Next go to the properties of your network card and on the TCP/IP select properties and ensure obtain IP address automatically is ticked. You must also set up using the XP network wizard and ensure file and printer sharing is set up through both pc's.
